To a certain extent, doubt is good for the mind. People who doubt are not in danger
of being ruled by emotion. But a man who completely lacks any positive beliefs is often
a useless man, and a life without a belief in something positive is unbearable. Instead
of doubting everything, we should be ready to believe when there is sufficient evidence,
and we should try not judge a case while evidence is lacking. In other words, our mental
attitudes should be "critical" but not "negative".
어느 정도까지 회의는 우리의 사고(thinking)에 이롭다. 회의하는 사람은
감정에 지배될 위험 속에 놓여 있지 않기 때문이다. 그러나 아무런 긍정적인
믿음이 전혀 없는 사람은 흔히 쓸모없는 사람이며, 무엇인가 긍적적인 것에
대한 믿음이 없는 생활은 견딜 수 없다. 모든 것을 의심하지 말고, 우리는
충분한 증거가 있을 때에는 믿을 준비가 되어 있어야 하며, 증거가 없는
경우에는 판단을 내리려고 하지 말아야 한다. 바꾸어 말하면, 우리의 정신적인
태도는 "비판적"이어야지, "부정적"이어서는 안 된다.
이렇게 공개 인민 재판하듯이 회의하다 세워놓고 "네가 그런 식으로 하면..." 제가 그래서 2018년도에 원래 끝내려고 그랬어요.
