refer A to B는 [A를 B에게 소개하다]
비즈니스에서의 [소개]는 introduce보다 refer를 사용하는 경향이 많다. refer
는 (a) 적합한 회사 혹은 전문가에게 돌리다 (b) 소개할 상대의 업무를 직접
알지 못할 경우에도 사용되는 점에서 introduce와 다르다. introduce는 [소개
하다]라는 뜻 외에 업무용어로서 [제품을 처음으로 도입하다, 수입(수출)을 시
작하다]의 의미로도 자주 사용된다.
상호공동 관심분야는 찾지 못했지만, 그들의 업무와 관련된 이곳회사에 그들
을 소개해 줄 수 있었습니다.
Though we did not find any areas of common interest, I was able to refer
them to a local firm involved in their line of work.
이 회사는 행사 소개 보도자료를 지난 8일 오전 언론사에 배포했다가 2시간 반 뒤 철회하면서 "급하게 진행하는 과정에서 일부 마케팅 내용이 미확정됐다"고 설명했다.

his message was that the ordinary laws of physical distribution aren't
suspended for dot.coms -- it was Greer who warmly introduced him. It
doesn't hurt either man that Federal Express's market cap today is close
to $13 billion.

한국 회사의 영문소개서에서 발견한 최고 걸작은 이런 문장이었다. “Our company was erected in 1977.”‘erect’라는동사는‘세우다’‘건립하다’라는 뜻이 있지만 동시에남자의발기상태를나타내는 말이기도 하다.한국의 한 사찰에서 부처님 조성시기를 설명한 글에서도 이런 문장을 본 적이 있다. “This Buddha was erected in 1340.” 미국인이본다면상당히 불경스러운 상상을 하지 않을 수 없는 표현이다.
회사를 세운다는 의미를 전하려면 ‘establish’ 또는 ‘found’라는 동사를 쓰면 된다. “Our company was established in 1945”라는 식으로.
