◆ ask, inquire, query, question, quiz
1) ask : 대답, 정보를 구하다(일상용어).
2) inquire : ask보다 격식 차리는 말.
3) query : 어떤 것의 정확성에 의심을 품다.
4) question : 진상을 알려고 몇 번이고 묻다.
5) quiz : ((미국)) 특히 교사가 학생에게 어떤 과목에 대하여 철저히 물어보다.
- ask
He asked me about you.
(내게 너에 관해서 묻더라.)
Ask him whether [if] he knows.
(알고 있는지 물어 보거라.)
Please ask when he will be back.
(그가 언제 돌아오나 물어보시오.)
I asked the driver where to get off the bus.
(어디서 버스를 내리면 되느냐고 운전사에게 물어봤다.)
I asked my teacher how to spell the word.
(선생에게 그 단어의 철자를 물었다.)
- inquire
She inquired the way of a passer inquire by.
(그는 지나가는 사람에게 길을 물었다.)
He inquired (of the girl)how she had managed it.
(그는 소녀에게 어떻게 그것을 해냈느냐고 물었다.)
He inquired what his boss wanted.
(그는 대장이 원하는 것이 무어냐고 물었다.)
- query
Query, was the money ever paid ?
(묻겠는데, 그 돈을 치루었는가?) -> query가 명사로 쓰임.
I query whether [if] his word can be relied on. = I query the reliability of his word.
(그의 말이 신용할 만한지 어떤지 의심스럽다)
The company accountant queried my travel expenses.
(그 회사의 회계사는 내가 사용한 여행 경비에 대해 의심을 품었다.)
- question
That is the question.
(그게 문제이다.) -> question이 명사로 쓰임.
I questioned him on his opinion.
(나는 그에게 의견을 물었다.)
Some people question whether his remarks are true.
(그가 한 말의 진실성을 의심하는 자도 있다.)

She couldn't be sure why he was quizzing her.
(그녀는 왜 그 남자가 꼬치꼬치 캐묻는 줄을 알 수 없었다.)
My history teacher quizzed me yesterday.
(어제 역사 선생님께서 나에게 질문 하셨다.)
