I can't believe it.

During the baseball game I missed an easy ball. This made me so
embarrassed that I just stood there without knowing what to do. To my
dismay, the other team scored three runs. After the game, the coach
shouted at me, "You should never do that again!" I answered,
hesitatingly, "I won't. I'll never miss such an easy ball again."
"Miss?" He yelled. "You'll miss lots. That's not the problem. It's what
you did after. While you were standing there, how many runs did the other
team score?"
야구 시합 중 나는 쉬운 공을 놓쳤다. 이로 인해 너무 당황해서 난 어쩔 줄
모르고 거기에 서 있었다. 황당하게도, 상대 팀이 3점을 얻었다. 게임 후에
코치가 "다시는 그렇게 해서는 안돼!"라고 소리쳤다. 나는 "안 그럴께요.
다시는 그런 공은 안 놓칠께요."라고 주저하며 대답했다. "놓친다고?" 그가
소리쳤다. "너는 많은 공을 놓칠 거야. 그건 문제가 아냐. 문제는 그 후 네
행동이지. 네가 거기 서 있는 동안, 상대 팀이 몇 점 냈냐?"

...Couldn't enjoy a cup of noodles after that. I mean, is that ridiculous? Can you believe she actually thought that?
... 그 뒤로 라면을 한 입도 못 먹었다니까. 정말 황당하지? 어떻게 날 게이로 볼 수가 있지?

파란하늘에 갑자기 비가 오고 천둥이 치는 기이한 날씨를 보이는 날을 '호
랑이가 장가가는 날'이라고들 한다. 호랑이야 장가를 가서 좋겠지만 졸지에
새앙쥐처럼 소나기를 맞은 사람들은 황당하지 않을 수 없다. 'out of the
blue'라는 표현이 있다. '맑은 날씨에 갑자기'라는 식의 이 표현은 '뜻밖에
'라는 의미를 가진다.
Mr Kim:You're pulling out another cigarette. I guess you smoke too m
uch.
Mr Brown:You're right.
Mr Kim:Do you happen to know the reason why tigers are almost extinc
t on the korean Peninsula?
Mr Brown:Why are you talking about tigers out of the blue.
Mr Kim:Because smoking was the reason.
Mr Brown:How come?
Mr Kim:You know,Korean tigers used to smoke,according to the korean
folklore. The elders begin their tales by saying, 'Once upon a time wh
en tigers smoked…'
김씨:담배를 또 꺼내시는군요. 담배를 너무 많이 피우시는것 같은데요.
브라운씨:옳으신 말씀입니다.
김씨:한반도에서 호랑이가 거의 멸종된 이유를 혹시 아십니까?
브라운씨:뜻밖에 호랑이 이야기는 왜 하시는거죠?
김씨:흡연이 그 이유이기 때문입니다.
브라운씨:있잖아요,한국의 설화에 따르면 한국호랑이들은 담배를 피웠답니
다. 어르신들은 '옛날 옛날 호랑이가 담배피우던 시절에…'라고 이야기를
시작하시거든요.
