더빙(Dubbing)
편집한 원판 필름(Rush)에 음악, 효과, 해설, 대사 등을 녹음하는 것을 지칭. 흔히 더빙-인
(Dubbing-In)이라고도 한다.
더빙은 크게 두 가지로 구분된다. 첫째, 오래된 영화를 시대감각에 맞게 복원하기 위해 음
악, 대사, 특수 효과 등을 전면적으로 믹싱 하는 경우인데, 이는 1962년 프리츠 랑 감독의 <
메트로폴리스 Metropolis>를 1984년 조르지오 모로더가 색상과 음악을 삽입시킨 경우에서
살펴볼 수 있는 또 하나는 일정 부분의 음향을 수정하기 위해 새로운 대체음을 재녹음시키
는 것을 들 수 있다.
감독이 연기자의 대사가 거칠거나 미흡하다고 느낄 때, 성우 같은 전문인에게 목소리 대역
을 시키는 것도 더빙이다. 이는 캐스팅된 연기자의 대사를 문제삼아 촬영 장면을 처음부터
다시 찍기에는, 시간이나, 금전적으로 막대한 손해를 자초하기 때문에 가장 손쉬운 후시더빙
을 시도하는 것이다.
또 하나 더빙이 빈번하게 활용되는 것이 뮤지컬 영화.
연기자들이 뮤지컬에 캐스팅 되었을 때 노래, 춤 솜씨까지 완벽하게 해낸다면 그야말로 금
상첨화지만, 현실은 그렇지가 않다. 유명 배우일수록 대부분 노래나 춤 솜씨는 형편없어 그
야말로 감독들의 한숨 소리가 촬영장을 진동시키는 것이 다반사이다. 이때 이런 난국을 타
개시켜 주는 것이 더빙이다.
즉 스타는 입만 벙긋거리고 실제 노래는 재능 있는 여타 인물이 더빙을 하면, 관객들은 흡
사 연기자가 완벽하게 노래 솜씨를 발휘하는 것으로 속아넘어가게 되는 것이다.
스토리보드(Storyboard)
영화의 주요 장면을 연출자가 간단히 스케치해 놓은 그림. 이것은 촬영 감독이, 감독이 원하
는 장면과 촬영 각도 등을 쉽게 파악할 수 있는 매우 유용한 자료로 활용되고 있다.
특수 효과(Special Effect)
넓은 의미로 정의한다면 영화 속에서의 특수 효과는 전통적인 카메라 촬영 기법에서부터 시
작했다.
즉 무성 영화 시기에는 페이드 인(Fade-In, 화면이 점차 밝아지는 것), 페이드 아웃 (Fade-
Out, 화면이 점점 어두어져 보이지 않게 됨)도 촬영 특수 효과로 평가됐다.
오늘날에 와서 이 특수 효과는 많은 수공업을 들여 트릭을 사용한 복잡한 장면으로 인식되
고 있고, 공포, 환타지, SF, 모험극 등 모든 장르에서 활용되고 있다.
