A group of sharks were spotted off the coast earlier this month.

alive by police at a farm house in southern Kangnung, several km
south of the wreckage point. Lee possessed a pistol when he was
captured.

위의 두 표현은 그런 맥락에서 상통하고 있지요.
해안을 통해 침입하려고 벼르고 벼르던 적들이 철통같은 수비를 하고
있는 상대를 보고 후퇴해서 돌아가면 해안을 지키던 군사들은 "위험은
사라졌다!" 하고 소리를 지르겠지요.
바로 이 말이 "The coast is clear!" 랍니다.
그런데 이 말은 근대로 넘어오면서 밀수꾼에 의해 더욱 널리 번지게
됩니다.
해안의 경계를 맡던 경찰들이 사라진 후 잽싸게 물건을 들여오면서 하
는 말인즉, " 이 때다! " 했던 것이죠.
그리고 'clear'는 동사로 쓰여서 '깨끗이 없애다,치워버리다' 의 뜻이

Greenland, the largest island in the world, is just about the most ungreen place on earth!
Most of this island, which is more than three times as large as Texas, is continually covered with ice and snow.
This ice sheet is two miles thick in some places.

Then how did this land get its name?
In 982, a Scandinavian explorer named Eric the Red sailed to Greenland and spent three years there.
When he returned home, he called the land he had seen “Greenland” in the hope of convincing some of his followers to settle there.

Plants are known to react to environmental pressures such as wind, rain,
and even human touch. Coastal trees, for example, become shorter and
stronger in response to strong winds and heavy rainfall. In a laboratory
study conducted at Stanford University, the same changes in plant growth
patterns were brought about by touching plants twice a day. The
researchers also found that these growth changes resulted from gene

Recently, however, paleontologists have been taking a closer look at the
sediments below this Silurian-Devonian geological boundary. It turns out
that some fossils can be extracted from these sediments by putting the
rocks in an acid bath. The technique has uncovered new evidence from
sediments that were deposited near the shores of the ancient oceans ―
plant microfossils and microscopic pieces of small animals. In many
instances the specimens are less than one-tenth of a millimeter in
diameter. Although they were entombed in the rocks for hundreds of
millions of years, many of the fossils consist of the organic remains of
the organism.

Surrounding Alaska on all but one side are two oceans and a vast sea,
giving this state the longest coastline in the United States. In fact,
if the coastlines of all of its peninsulas and islands are considered,
Alaska has a longer coastline, 33,904 miles (54,563 kilometers), than
all the other 49 states together.

(1) game 지능을 쓰는, 흔히 상대가 있거나 혹은 상대를 예상하고 하는 놀이를 말합니다.

(2) sport 행동하다; 장난하다 --> 자신의 이익 추구를 떠나 즐기기 위해 (주로 몸을 움직여서) 노는 것을 말합니다.

그냥 농담삼아 말했을 뿐이야.

가장 좋아하는 운동은 무엇인가요?
(3) play 지능적 놀이와 신체적 놀이 어디에나 쓰입니다. 무책임한 자유로움이 암시되어 있습니다.
game에 비해서는 표면에 나타난 동작이나 기술에 초점을 두고 있습니다. 따라서 '연극'은 game이 아니라 play입니다.

일만 알고 놀 줄 모르면 사람이 둔해진다.
공부할 때는 공부하고 놀 때는 놀아라.
