Still valid are the inter-Korean basic agreements, which went into
force in 1992. They include accords on nonaggression, reconciliation,
exchanges and cooperation. First of all, the North is called on to realize
the reunion of separated family members by abiding by the
inter-Korean agreements.

Earlier in the week, EU negotiators had agreed to "substantial and
progressive" reductions in farm support in return for U.S. concessions
that some aid could be justified to preserve the environment and a rural
way of life. But such compromise collapsed after EU delegates decided
final draft text on agriculture at the Seattle meeting was very tough for
them to swallow, Reuters also reports. In the end, the United States and
Europe failed to resolve last-minute textual language differences.

stance on agriculture in Seattle.

EU Farm Commissioner Franz Fischler reiterated at a new conference early
on Saturday that any concessions the EU discussed in Seattle were now off
the negotiating table, according to the report.
EU 농업위원회 프란즈 피슐러 위원장은 4일 오전 기자회견에서 시애틀에서 EU
대표단이 검토한 어떠한 양보조항도 이제는 더 이상 협상의 대상이 될 수
없다고 밝혔다.
