I don't know what to do.

You may think we've been making a profit. In fact the reverse is true.

ex) Washington may have to settle for finding the least objection able way of living with Saddam Hussein.

You are talking over my head.
* 미국인들이 쓰는 회화에서 You've lost me.
그러니까 I don't understand. 또는
I don't know what you are talking about. 또는
I don't get(or dig) it. 또는 I don't follow you.
You are talking over my head.
I don't follow you very well. 또는
Would you mind using simpler words?
This movie is over my head.
It's beyond me도 I don't understand.
I can't do it.

You may have to sit there for hours waiting, or you may arrive too late and miss it.

He might want to draw a math problem or make pictures in his notes to help him understand things better.

A visitor may be denied admittance to this country if she has been guilty of moral turpitude.

Although the authorities suppressed the book; many copies are extant and may be purchased at exorbitant prices.

As we begin this all-important campaign, we must eject from our minds any fears that we will not succeed.

Because of the incidents that occurred during hazing week, the school may rescind the rules that allow fraternity initiations.

The safety rules for the science lab are based on long experience, and if you transgress them, you may have to pay a heavy price.

With the advent of competitive team sports for girls, our school's athletic budget may have to be readjusted.

Two studies are adding to the debate about the health risks of eating fish containing high levels of the metal mercury.
One study suggests that people who eat fish high in mercury may increase their risk of having a heart attack.
Yet another study found no link between mercury and heart disease.

Diamonds are older than nearly everything else on earth.
They have been used to cut glass, cure snakebites, and charm kings and queens.
Famed for their flashing beauty, diamonds are the hardest substance on earth and among the most useful.
However, digging for diamonds is an expensive and exhausting operation.
Miners may dig through about 250 tons of rock to find just one stone.

The pollution of sea, air, and land harms our quality of life by affecting our health.
More serious is the possibility of the end of human life itself.
We may become so developed that we kill ourselves!
Therefore, the most recent definition of development emphasizes sustainable development:
the improvement of human quality of life within the limits of a green, healthy earth.
In other words, it is development which aims to protect, not destroy, the earth's resources.
This will make sure that our present lifestyle does not harm future generations' lifestyles.
They will also be able to get fruits from the earth.

But what I really worry about is that the new language used by the youth on the Internet is becoming even more common than proper Korean.
The strange language has already made its way into the children’s diaries and homework.
When they become grown-ups, two different languages might be used in Korea.
They might think Korean used by older generations is an alien language.
It’s really scary just imagining it.

Now, however, Peter Ward and Donald Brownlee claim that the conventional wisdom is wrong.
In their book, they say the search for alien life is likely to fail.
Drawing on astronomy, geology, and paleontology, they argue that humans might indeed be alone in the cosmos.
They say that science is showing the Earth’s composition and stability to be extraordinarily rare.
Almost everywhere else, the radiation levels are so high and the right chemical elements are so scarce that life cannot evolve into advanced communities.

day than in the 1950s.
You would be wrong, according to many surveys taken in rich countries.
These tend to show that, once a country has lifted itself out of poverty,
further rises in income seem not to create a meaningful rise in the proportion of people who consider themselves as happy.
* plethora : 과잉공급

Pen designers must be aware of hundreds of requirements.
Make the pen too thin, and it will not be strong enough to stand up to the hard use of schoolchildren.
Make the middle section too thick, and it can neither be grasped properly by the fingers nor controlled with enough precision.
However, people with arthritic hands may need a thick body because they can't close their fingers entirely.
And what of those who use the pen as a measuring device or as a mechanical instrument to poke, stab, and twist?
For example, the instructions for the clock in my automobile say to set it by pressing the recessed button with the tip of a ball-point pen.

“Unless you're unmarried, childless, and without property, writing a will is one of the most important things you can do to protect your loved ones.” says a lawyer.
If you die without a will, your estate is turned over to the state, which divides your assets according to the succession laws of your province.
This may mean costly and lengthy legal battles for your survivors, and even worse, your loved ones may not be provided for as you wished.

Reading a book is a kind of conversation.
You may think that it is not, because the author does all of the talking, and you have nothing to say; but if you think that, you do not realize your duty as a reader―and you are not using your opportunities.
Actually, the reader is the one who has the last word.
The author has said what he wanted to say, and then it is the reader's turn.
The conversation, however, should be an orderly one, with first one talking and then the other.

It scares me to think that you might marry this guy.

Infatuation lacks confidence.
When he's away, you wonder if he's cheating.
Sometimes you check.
Love means trust.
You are calm, secure and unthreatened.
He feels your trust and it makes him even more trustworthy.
Infatuation might lead you to do things you'll regret later, but love never will.

In other words, by expecting these things to deliver lasting delight, we are setting ourselves up for a fall.
We think, "As soon as I get that new job I'll be happy," then we get the job, our joy is fleeting, we start to feel unfulfilled again, and suddenly we are miserable.
All of our expectations have been dashed.
Maybe we need a new job? And the cycle continues.

Servants may leave so that we have to wash up after our meals, but we may still, when the work is done, be able to put our feet up for a few minutes.
We may, when we go out in the car, find the roads up, or so bad that our tires go flat and have to be pumped up.
Yet, when we get home, we may perhaps enjoy, if we sit up late, a wonderful broadcast of opera from Milan or Rome.
Things do look up sometimes.

These changes may mean that the cultural context will no longer help women live healthier lives.

Do you remember buying tennis shoes 15 years ago? You went into the
store and had only a few choices. Now when you walk into a sports store,
you may be amazed at hundreds of different styles. Something similar has
happened with computer printers. When the first printers came onto the
market, there were few choices. Now there are a plethora of print
technologies.

When you have to give a speech, you may be terrified. But it doesn't
have to be that bad. First of all, it is important to plan. Find out
everything you can about your audience. Who are they? What do they know
about your subject? Ask yourself the purpose of your speech. Use simple
expressions wherever possible. Let your personality come through so that
you make person-to-person contact with your audience.

School-aged daughters of employed mothers tend to have consistently high
academic performance. They also tend to develop close relationships with
their fathers if they are warm, supportive, and participate actively in
parenting. School-aged sons tend to have better social and personality
adjustments as well as higher academic achievement, if their mothers
work outside the home. However, sons of lower socioeconomic families
with a working mother may be less admiring of their fathers, perhaps
because of the perceived notion of economic failure on their part.
