Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation
or any nation so conceived and so dedicated can long endure. We are
met on a great battle-field of that war.
현재 우리는 일대 시민전쟁에 휩쓸려, 이 나라가, 혹은 또 그와 같이
태어나서 그렇게 바친 어느 나라든지, 길이 존속할 수 있느냐 없느냐

We have come to dedicate a portion of that field as a final resting
place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live.

It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

But in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate - we cannot consecrate -
we cannot hallow - this ground. The brave men, living and dead who
struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add
or detract.
그러나 좀더 큰 뜻에서 보자면, 우리로서는 이 땅을 바칠 자격이
없습니다. 성별하지 못하고, 성화하지 못합니다. 생존해 있거나 고인이
되었거나, 여기서 싸운 용사들이 이미 이땅을 거룩하게 했으며, 우리의
미약한 힘으로는 거기다 가감을 할 도리가 없습니다.

The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here,
but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living,
rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who
fought here have thus far so nobly advanced.
