English literature of Korea must be regarded as of Korean Sciences because it has been taught to Korean Language at least for forty years. As it is a completely koreanized science like electro engineering politics and library science, I believe it is quite natural for korean scholars to write about it in korean language for the easy understanding of Korean people. Translation without interpretation of footnotes on it is likely to be hard to understand. So it is sometimes rather convenient to read the source language text in itself. As a result translation seems less useful. We cannot make the foreign words ours just by changing them into Korean.

It is an offering of thanks to heaven for the harvest, an appeal for the good fortune of another harvest in the next year, and an offering of sacrifices to one's family ancestors for all they did for the clan and family. In addition, of course, there are family gathering, much hearty eating, and such activities as the circle dance in the light of the full harvest moon.

We are stunned by the shocking mutiny aboard a tuna fishing
boat with a crew of 24 in the South Pacific that has left seven Koreans
and four men from other countries dead. The mishap took place aboard
the 294-ton Honduras-registered Pescamar 15 that was owned by an
Omani firm and operated by Daehyon Fisheries Co. of South Korea. The
victims reportedly were the Korean captain, six other Koreans, three
Indonesians and one Chinese.

In spite of the sensitive nature of the issue and various foreseeable problems,
it is still obvious that the nation needs to start debating on euthanasia.
The issue has seldom been discussed openly, but according to a recent opinion poll,
over 70 percent of the respondents approved of doctor-assisted suicide when it is considered necessary.

Shimane inquired whether it should include Ulleungdo and Dokdo in the East Sea.

There are many pending diplomatic issues to be resolved
between Korea and Japan, among which are such sensitive
issues as the fisheries agreement, economic aid, the
lessening of Seoul's *trade deficit with Tokyo, and the
opening of our entertainment industries, to name just a few.
Seoul looks forward to Minister Obuchi's *contributions. The

Now the steps to further widen the leeway for Korea's
economic maneuvering should include an early repayment of the
IMF's short-term loans with high interest. Of the total 16.8
billion dollars borrowed from the IMF, 2.8 billion, with 8

first be redeemed. If the 40 billion dollars in foreign
reserves can be maintained until the end of this year, the
target for early repayment should be the 2 billion dollars
with maturities in January and February next year.

Time flies.는 Time flies like an arrow. (세월은 화살처럼
빠르다, 세월은 화살과 같다)라는 속담을 간단하게 쓴 것으로
지금은 보통 이런 식으로 표현합니다. 「비행」flight라는 단어의
발음에는 특히 주의를 기울여서 fright「공포」라는 뜻이 되지

A record drop in imports helped South Korea reap a 1.6
billion dollar trade surplus in January, boosting hopes for
an early end to its financial crisis, trade officials said

우리말에서 몇 개월 연속 또는 몇 년 연속 등과 같이 말을 할 때
해당되는 표현입니다. 주의를 드리고 싶은 부분은 첫째 정관사
the가 쓰이고 있다는 점과 두번째 서수인 second, third, fourth
등이 나오고 있으며 뒤에 나오는 month 또는 year는 반드시
단수(singular)라는 점입니다. 이와 같이 따로 주의를 주지
