In the United States, numberless people are illiterate for a variety of reasons.
Some dropped out of school.
Others came to the country from another country.
Still others had ineffective teachers, or were not ready to learn reading when it was taught.
The problem, however, begins in the home, not at school.
The majority of children with illiterate parents become illiterate themselves.
Conversely, preschoolers whose parents read to them are better prepared to begin school and perform at higher rates than those not exposed to reading.
많은 미국 사람들은 다양한 이유로 글을 읽거나 쓰지 못한다.
어떤 이들은 학교를 중도에 그만두었다.
다른 이들은 외국에서 이주해 왔다.
또 다른 이들은 무능한 교사들에게서 배웠거나, 읽기를 가르칠 때 배울 준비가 되어있지 않았다.

부모가 문맹인 아이들 대다수는 자신들 또한 문맹이 된다.
반대로, 부모가 책을 읽어 주는 취학 전 아동들은 읽기에 노출되지 않은 아동들보다 학교생활을 시작하고 더 빠르게 성취할 준비를 더 잘 갖추고 있다.
매번 손가락 끝에서 피를 뽑아 혈당치를 재지 않아도 돼 어린이집, 유치원, 학교생활을 하는 아이들에게 특히 유용하다.
It is especially useful for children who live in daycare centers, kindergartens and schools because they do not have to take blood from the tips of their fingers to measure blood sugar level every time.

Mom:Yes, Did you learn a lot at school today?
Tommy:Yes, Mom. I think I'm beginning to know what's what about
school life.
Mom:I'm glad you're beginning to understand your school life. By the
way, how did you like your first lunch box today?
Tommy:It was OK, but because I was running late this morning, the
contents were all mixed up, so it was difficult to know what was what.
Mom:Oh, where's your jacket?
Tommy:Don't worry. I was so hot that I took it off and put it in my
lunch box.

엄마:오,네 재킷은 어디 있니?
토미:걱정 마세요. 너무 더워서 재킷을 벗어서 도시락 속에 집어넣었어요.
