General account:
정부가 public project(공공사업), social welfare(사회보장), education(교육),
diplomacy(외교), national defense(국방) 등 일반행정을 추진하는 데 필요한
tax revenue(조세수입)와 과태료 등 non-tax receipt(세외수입),
전년도에 쓰고 남은 a balance carried forward from the last account(이월금)
및 debt(차입금)을 revenue(세입)로 하며, general administration(일반행정),
national defense(국방), social development(사회개발), education(교육),
public project(공공사업) 등에 소요되는 지출을 expenditure(세출)로 하여

Each ball must be thrown high enough to allow the juggler time to handle the other balls.
While throwing higher gives the juggler extra time, it also increases the risk of error.
Juggling low, on the other hand, requires the juggler to catch and throw quickly, also increasing the risk of error.
The need for speed or height will change dramatically as the number of objects being juggled increases.

Mr. and Mrs. Howell are a middle-aged couple.
Mr. Howell owns a corner grocery store.
Mrs. Howell is a housewife.
Mr. Howell works hard every day, so at the end of the day, he is often very tired.
He always likes to watch television in the evenings.
He never wants to go out at night, so Mrs. Howell sometimes complains to him.
She usually likes to go out to dinner.
After all, she is generally at home alone during the day, so she seldom enjoys staying at home in the evenings.
This causes a family problem, and the Howells occasionally spend the evening arguing.

Howell
Howell

Every human being will grow older and die.
Aging in itself is not a disease or a sickness, but as people age, disease often follows and the elderly need others' help.
In addition, the percentage of senior citizens in the world has increased very quickly, and our society is no exception.
The problem for us is that we have left the care of the elderly to their families.
We must change our attitude toward this issue and develop more systematic social programs.
The sooner we realize the importance of the role of government in this matter, the smaller the final cost to society as a whole will be.

When I entered the ninth grade, I thought I would have to work very hard, and my teachers would be very strict.
So when the history teacher told us what we were going to study, I became confused and tired.
I stumbled into the English class, my head still spinning.

- Keep your eyes on the ball.
- Hear only the things you should hear―be deaf to others.
- Don't lose your temper. A decision made in anger is never sound.
- Remember, respect for you is created by the decision on the field.

Far into the forest stood a little pine tree.
Since it had plenty of fresh air and sunshine, it grew well.
When Christmas came, many young trees were cut.
“Where are they going?” the pine tree asked.
“They are going to the town,” twittered the sparrows.
“There they are dressed in gold and silver and placed in the middle of warm rooms and the children worship them.”
“How I wish that would happen to me!” sighed the tree.
“My sweet, you already have real blessings!” said the sun, but the tree did not understand.
The pine tree was restless and impatient and always wanted to get away.

Although there are thousands of species of wild animals, surprisingly few species have been domesticated.
The reason is that it takes special qualities to make animals suitable for domestication.
They must be strong enough to withstand removal from their mother at an early age.
They must breed freely in captivity and be easy to look after.
Domestic or farm animals must be able to develop a liking for man, enjoy comfort, and accept confinement and control.
And, of course, they must be useful: primarily as a source of food,
but also in the provision of wool or hide for clothing and sometimes as a means of transport or pulling power.

Once a troop of monkeys came to the lake, led by their king.
The monkeys were all thirsty.
The monster was very pleased at the thought of catching them for food.
But the monkey king noted that the footprints of various animals led to the lake but none led away from it.
He was suspicious and worried.
He gave strict orders that no one was to drink water from the lake until he gave the word.
So the monkeys now waited by the waters of the lake, impatiently thirsty.
Their discipline was good, however, and the king's orders were completely followed.

In the 1700's and 1800's, the men's role included earning an income to support a family and working in the farms,
while the female's role included the responsibility to have and to care for children, running a household and assisting a husband in farm labor.
Running a household and caring for children was considered a “full-time" job.
Children were taught their roles when they were very young.
Boys were shown how to farm and provide for their future families' as they attended school.
Girls learned how to do the household chores and received only the very basic education.
They were taught how to be wives and mothers.

The first is the mistaken idea that schools exist principally to train boys and
girls to be sociable, "integrated with their group," "equipped with the skills of
social living,""adjusted to family and community cooperation."Obviously that is one

To a certain extent, doubt is good for the mind. People who doubt are not in danger
of being ruled by emotion. But a man who completely lacks any positive beliefs is often
a useless man, and a life without a belief in something positive is unbearable. Instead
of doubting everything, we should be ready to believe when there is sufficient evidence,
and we should try not judge a case while evidence is lacking. In other words, our mental
attitudes should be "critical" but not "negative".

We killed the time by telling stories of the past.

One winter night I found myself lost in the fog and in a part of the
city I didn't know. Then, I met a man and asked him to direct me. He said
okay and we walked together, with his hand on my elbow. When we arrived
at the address I had given, I said goodbye, thanking him. As I turned to
shake his hand, I realized he could not see my hand, and indeed the way
we had come. The stranger who had led me so surely through the fog was
blind.

The new Dutch law insists patients must be adults, have made a voluntary, well-considered and lasting request to die, must be facing a future of unbearable suffering and must have no reasonable alternative.
A second doctor must be consulted, and life must be ended in a medically appropriate way.
It must be stressed that these legal requirements should be met with no exception.
All the possible supervisory measures should be taken to eliminate concerns about the abuse by doctors.

Hawking, who holds a prestigious Cambridge University chair once held by Sir Isaac Newton, also forecast that babies would be grown outside the womb in the next hundred years.
The British physicist said humans should improve their mental and physical capabilities and meet challenges posed by space travel.
"If we don't destroy ourselves in the next 100 years, I expect we will spread out to planets in the nearby solar system and then to nearby stars," Hawking said.

Increasing attention has been drawn to the problems faced by women in science, engineering and technology(SET).
Women are unequally represented in SET and their career progression is not comparable to their male colleagues.
They often face discrimination, being employed on a less secure footing and receiving lower grants than their male colleagues.
There are less women in SET because of the widespread acceptance of a stereotyping of scientists and engineers as male from school to university level.

Traditional morality is often associated with the view that there is a certain natural and morally defensible hierarchy of beings.
There is, it is claimed, a natural order according to which inanimated objects are to serve animate ones; further, plants are here for the sake of animals, and animals for the sake of humans.
Those with less rationality exist to serve the needs, interests, or good of those with more.
It is, thus, right and proper, for the "higher" to use the "lower," as the former see fit.
Throughout history this view has rarely been questioned.
It is a view implicit in much (at least) of natural law theory dating back to Aristotle (384-322 B.C) and in Thomas Aquinas's (1225-1274) theological revision of Aristotelianism.
In theological versions, of course, the natural order is seen as part of the divine order-and people are around for the sake of God―and are to function within the constraints laid down by divine purposes.

They were forced into it by the fact that technology has advanced more rapidly in the past 50 years than in the previous 5,000.
Men in business, government, education and science itself realize that they must look at least two decades ahead just to keep abreast, and must learn to survive under totally different conditions.
The new futurists are well aware of past failures of vision.

Once my mother and grandmother, horrified by a particularly sensational picture on the cover of one of my books, told me to tear it up.
I could not bear to do this, so I hid it under a loose board in my grandmother's summer-house, where it stayed for two or three years, and received many secret and guilty readings it would never have had otherwise: for my father was right on the other point too.
I had grown out of my taste for highwayman, and gone on the other books.
But the forbidden book lasted longer than all the rest, because it was forbidden.

God makes all things good; man meddles with them and they become evil.
He forces one soil to yield the products of another, one tree to bear another's fruit.
He confuses and confounds time, place, and natural conditions.
He mutilates his dog, his horse, and his slave.
He destroys and defaces all things; he loves all that is deformed and monstrous;
he will have nothing as nature made it, not even man himself,
who must learn his paces like a saddle horse, and be shaped to his master's taste like the trees in his garden.

Beware committees, conferences, leagues of intellectuals!
For intellectuals, far from being highly individualistic and non-conformist people, are in fact ultraconformist within the circles formed by those whose approval they seek and value.
This is what makes them, so dangerous, because it enables them to create cultural climates, which themselves often generate irrational, violent and tragic courses of action.
Remember at all times, that people must always come before ideas and not the other way around.

Nowadays Koreans are more likely to live in hi-rise condominium complexes than in houses and do their shopping in huge discount stores or shopping centers instead of at traditional markets.
An increasing number of Koreans now sleep on beds, communicate through computers, cook on microwave ovens, watch video movies at home on wide-screen TV sets.

The ubiquity of controversy is succinctly captured by Kuhn (1977) in his objection to the consensual approach:
the emergence of new scientific ideas "requires a decision process which permits rational men to disagree, and such disagreement would generally be barred by the shared algorithm which philosophers have generally sought.
If it were at hand, all conforming scientists would make the same decision at the same time."

The IPCC is organized into three working groups plus a task force on national greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories.
Each of these four bodies has two co-chairmen (one from a developed and one from a developing country) and a technical support unit.
Working Group I assesses the scientific aspects of the climate system and climate change;
Working Group II addresses the vulnerability of human and natural systems to climate change, the negative and positive consequences of climate change, and options for adapting to them;
Working Group II
and Working Group III assesses options for limiting greenhouse gas emissions and otherwise mitigating climate change, as well as economic issues.
Working Group III
Approximately 400 experts from some 120 countries are directly involved in drafting, revising and finalizing the IPCC reports and another 2,500 experts participate in the review process.
The IPCC authors are nominated by governments and by international organizations including NGOs.

Under certain circumstances, the human body must cope with gases at
greater-than- normal atmospheric pressure. For example, gas pressures
increase rapidly during a dive made with scuba gear because the
breathing equipment allows divers to stay underwater longer and dive
deeper.

For people who are looking for fun and adventure, there is the Mystery
Express, which runs from New York to Montreal, Canada. This trip
interests people who love Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, and Miss
Marple. It's for people who have always secretly dreamed of being a
private eye and solving mysteries. The passengers on board have the
opportunity to solve a murder mystery right there on the train. In the
middle of the night, for instance, there might be a gunshot; soon
everyone learns that there has been a “murder,” and they spend the
rest of the trip playing detective. They track down clues, exchange this
information and their opinions, and solve the whodunit by the time the
train has pulled into Mon- treal. Of course, no real crime takes place.
The “murderer” and several pas- sengers are actually actors. The trip
is a very creative weekend game.

Sherlock Homes, Hercule Poirot, Miss

Others talk a lot.
When they come into the theater, they talk and laugh.
They hardly notice when the movie starts because they are still talking.
They can’t hear what is going on in the movie and, unfortunately, neither can the people sitting near them.
People in this group don’t care about the needs of others.

Nowadays, they run a farm in the mountains of Wales.
"I always wanted to have a farm here," says Daniel, "and we took almost a year to make the decision to downshift.
It's taken some time getting used to, but it's been worth it.

Hey, do you guys know what you're doing for New Year's?
Gee, what?! What is wrong with New Year's?
Nothing for you, you have Paolo. You don't have to face the horrible pressures of this holiday
desperate scramble to find anything with lips just so you can have someone to kiss when the ball drops!! Man, I'm talking loud!
Well, for your information, Paolo is gonna be in Rome this New Year, so I'll be just as pathetic as the rest of you.
Yeah, you wish!
It's just that I'm sick of being a victim of this Dick Clark holiday. I say this year, no dates, we make a pact. Just the six of us- dinner.
Yeah, okay. Alright.
/ Y'know, I was hoping for a little more enthusiasm.
Phoebe, you're on.
/ Oh, oh, good.

Whoa, whoa. What, you start the party without me?
That could get dangerous.
Thomas Pickens? / Yeah.

I got a court order.

You pullin' my pud?
You know, the thought never crossed my mind. Come on.
What? / Nothing.
This is fun.
As compared to what?
As compared to a more scientific approach.

I don't expect you to understand an old broad like me.
You can't have a relationship built on a lie. Can you?
Oh, honey, it's not a lie.
It's our future.
