The Federal Trade Commission said on Tuesday the makers of a popular
and widely-advertised homeopathic remedy for the common cold had agreed
to settle charges they made unsubstantiated claims for the product.
미 연방공정거래위원회(FTC)가 23일 널리 알려진 퀴글리사의 감기에 듣는
동종요법 치료제 '콜드-에즈(Cold-Eeze)'에 대한 과대광고 시정조치를
내렸다.

19세기 초, 독일인 의사 Samuel Hahnneman에 의해 처음 창안된 치료요법의 하
나. 다량의 병원체에 의해 발병한 증상에 동일(유사)한 병원체를 극미량 가할
경우 그 증상이 오히려 치료가 된다는 이론에 그 근거를 두고 있다.
일반적으로 이러한 동종요법의 치료제는 동물성, 식물성 또는 광물성의
원료를 연속적으로 희석해 제조하는 데 경우에 따라선 박테리아나 바이러스를
함유하기도 한다(이때 이와같이 반복적으로 희석액을 더욱 희석하는 과정을
"약효강화”과정이라 하는 데 이는 치료제가 희석되면 될수록 더욱 그 약효가
강화가 되기 때문이다). 그런데 이렇듯 극도로 희석된 희석액을 사용하다보니
일부 정통의학계에선 그 유효물질이 쉽게 확인되지 않는다는 이유를 들어
동종요법을 무시하는 입장을 보이는 경우도 있다.

생의학 연구분야에서 세계최고권위를 자랑하는 미국립보건원은 최근 대표적
대체의료의 하나인 동종(同種)요법이 실제 건강에 도움을 줄 수 있다는
내용의 연구결과를 의학전문지 랜시트에 발표했다.
동종요법이란 건강한 사람에게 특정증상을 일으키는 물질을 농도를 낮춰 같은
증상을 앓는 환자에게 투여하면 치료된다는 원리를 지닌 서양특유의
대체의료를 말한다. 가령 겨자가스는 피부에 붉은 발진을 유발하는 유독
물질이지만 이미 발진증상을 앓고 있는 피부병 환자에게 농도를 묽게해
투여하면 오히려 피부병이 치료된다는 논리다.

bullous dermatoses (수포성 피부병)

cellulitis (봉와염, 봉와직염) 근막이나 세포 조직강, 특히 피하 조직을 따라 퍼져나가는 미만
성의 염증 과정. 현저한 화농 현상 없이 근막면을 따라서, 조직 공간을 통해 퍼져나가는 확
산적 염증 과정. 심부피하조직이나 가끔 근육의 급성 광범성, 확산성, 수종성, 화농성의 염증
으로 농양형성을 동반하기도 한다. 여러 종류의 박테리아에 의하여 수술 또는 외상부의, 화
상, 기타 피부병소에 감염되어 초래되며, 주로 A군 streptococci 및 Staphylococcus aureus
가 가장 흔한 원인균이다. 이것은 면역기능이 저하된 사람이나 단독 환자에게도 발생된다.
이 질환은 조직 사이로 확산되어 박테리아가 생성하는 많은 양의 하이알루로니데이스가 다
당기질을 분해하고, 섬유소 용해소는 섬유소 장벽을 용해시키고, 레시티네이스는 세포막을
파괴함으로써 결과적으로 조직면을 서로 분할시킨다. 임상증상으로는 경계가 불분명한 수종,
온열감 및 동통 등이 나타난다.

epidermolysis bullosa acquisita (표피수포증) 수포와 소포진의 발새을 특장으로 하는 유전
성 피부병 군.

genodermatosis (유전성 피부증) 유전적으로 결정되는 피부병으로서 보통 전신성이다. 국한
성인 경우는 보통 모반(nevus)이라고 한다.

gonorrhea (임질) Neisseria gonorrhoeae에 의한 감염증. 대부분 성교에 의한 것이나 신생아
출산시 감염성 삼출액에 의해서 또는 영아가 감염된 동거인에 의해서 가정내에서 감염되는
경우도 있다. 남성에 있어서는 보통 요도염, 농즙 배출을 특징으로 하고 여성에 있어서는 화
농성 난관염, 난소염, 난관 난소 농양, 복막염으로 발달하는 경우가 있으나 보통은 증상이
없는 경우가 많다. 균혈증은 남녀 양쪽에서 다 일어나며 피부병변, 관절염, 드물게는 수막염
또는 심내막염을 일으키기도 한다.

primary bullous dermatoses (원발 수포성 피부병)

rosacea (빨간 코, 적면증, 주사) 주로 비첨협부 및 전액 등에 자주 발생하는 피부병. 코와
이마와 뺨의 피부에 생기는 만성적인 질환으로 모세혈관의 확장 때문에 붉은 색을 나타낸
다.
