Beat it!
같은 뜻으로 get lost!, scram, split, buzz off, take a walk등
You beat me to her.
You look beat.
또 beat me는 I don't know.
cf) Leave me alone, please.

She, in turn, wearies him with reproaches, drinks herself sodden,
and fills the farm with her weeping.

I'm dog tired.

I can beat you in one-on-one.
They were trying to beat the deadline.
-
Beats me!
-
to beat around the bush는 bush(숲)의 around(주위)만 때리는 거니까
Stop beating around the bush. Get to the point.
Why do I have to beat myself up?
I'm dead beat.
-
라고 할 때 Beat it!
I don't want your advice! Just beat it!

----------------------------------------------------------
Is that so ? / Is that right ? / How interesting ! /
Really ? / That's news to me. / I didn't know that./
What ? / No kidding ! / You must be kidding ! /
You don't say. / Come on ! / Give me a break ! /
----------------------------------------------------------
" Is that so ? "/ " Is that right ? "/ " How interesting! "
때에는, " Oh, are you ? " / " Oh, doesn't he ?
예를 들어, " I am worn out.
Oh,are you ? "
He doesn't know the ABC of English."
라는 말에 " Oh,doesn't he ?"
That's news to me. " / " I didn't know that. "
" What ? " / " No kidding. "
미국인이 많이 쓰는 표현 중에 " Give me a break !

Not being able to fall asleep after going to bed at night or waking up too early in the morning is usually called insomnia.
In teenagers, insomnia is so frequent that it is almost "normal."
For some reason, teens fall asleep later than they did as children.
For example, if a child was used to going to bed at 8 p.m., a teen probably is not ready for sleep until 11 p.m.
No wonder so many teenagers complain of not being able to fall asleep and then feeling tired at school the next morning.

Shopping for food today is not the same as it used to be.
In the past, every neighborhood had a little food market.
Now every neighborhood has a big supermarket.
These are very different places.
The old markets were usually small and friendly.
People from the neighborhood often stopped there to hear the news or to talk.
However, this is not true in today's supermarkets.
Supermarkets are usually large and not very friendly.
A number of people in supermarkets seem to be tired and in a hurry.
Often they are not very polite.

The two-day weekend is a great opportunity for students to relax after a week of hard study.
They can indulge in recreations and hobbies, and meet friends.
They can also do extra reading for self-improvement, for which they normally cannot find time.
However, there are students who waste their time on weekends.
Sometimes they waste both time and money playing computer games or hanging around on the street,
and as a result, are too tired on Monday to concentrate on their studies.
The best way to spend the weekend is to revise the previous week's lessons and prepare for those of the coming week.

One day before people knew about coffee, a young goatherd noticed that his herd did not come home the previous night.
So he set out to look for them.
After searching around, this young goatherd finally found his herd.
Though he was relieved to find them, he was still concerned for their health,
for a normally calm and boring herd of goats was now dancing and jumping.
On further investigation he found that goats were consuming red berries growing on nearby plants.
Feeling rather tired, he tried the berries and found them to be quite bitter, yet strangely good.
Soon he did the same thing.

Once a poor student had to wander about the countryside.
He had no money, and he had no home.

The farmer gave the student supper, and the two began talking.

The process of culture shock is so predictable that its stages have been systematized.
The first is the honeymoon stage, familiar to those of us who love to travel, but never stay in one place long enough to find out what follows.
In the honeymoon stage, the new country and its people seem delightful.
It almost feels more comfortable than home.
Everything is so different and charming, the people are so nice and the customs are so interesting.
Then the bloom comes off the rose.
People start to look shallow, selfish, and stupid.
The different ways of doing things do not seem interesting any more―just boring.
You start to feel exhausted all the time.
Culture shock has set in.

Joyce's salon in the southern part of US provides the service that Santas want after their long vacations.
Every year, in this salon, Joyce who is known as the stylist for the Santas creates that snowy white beard.
She says, “A lot of hairdressers won't do it because it is a very tiring job.
But, I look forward to it every year.” Over one hundred clients come to her from as far away as Las Vegas and as close as just up the road.
She handles up to twelve Santas in a day.
Joyce's more than twenty years' experience in the salon shows in the final product.
All that cutting, combing, and coloring plays magic creating real Santas.

If your job requires you to be on your feet in one spot all day
―in front of a sales counter, for example―chances are you've complained that your feet are tired and achy.
" Standing in one place all the time is one of the worst things you can do to your feet,"
says Frank Myers, Doctor of Ohio University's College of Medicine in Athens, Ohio.
"The muscles don't flex or contract; they are just static."
One solution is to step on and off a raised surface, such as a telephone book, to give your muscles some work.
Or take your shoes off and roll a golf ball behind the ball of each foot for a minute or two.

In October of 1970, I took a train from Belen, N.M., to Los Angeles, a 900-mile trip with a connection in Barstow, California.
I was a college student with 17 cents in my pocket.
I hadn't eaten a decent meal in several days and was so tired my eyes would barely stay open.

Most of all, Lord, give me the strength to get all my housework done even though I'm dead tired after a long, hard, stressful day on the job.
And, lord, when my husband yells at me because I am too tired to wash last night's supper dishes, for the sake of my precious child, please give me the selfrestraint not to walk out the door.
Oh, Lord, on behalf of all working mothers everywhere, I ask for four things: strength, courage, patience and a forgiving heart.
My marriage depends on it.

My mother thinks the reason I don't hear the alarms is because I stay up too late and don't get enough sleep.
This is not true.
Even though I sometimes go to bed late, I don't feel tired once I'm up.

You sound tired.

A friend is going through an identity crisis and an energy crisis at the
same time. He doesn't know who he is, and he's too tired to find out.

As the economy faltered, the shortages of food, clothing and other basic necessities
made queuing an increasingly exhausting and frustrating way of life, an ordeal
made all the more cruel by the onset of an unusually harsh Polish winter.

He felt old and a little tired.

One of the greatest dangers of living in large towns is that we have too
many neighbors and human fellowship is too cheap. We are apt to become
wearied of humanity; a solitary green tree sometimes seems dearer to us
than an odd thousand of our fellow citizens. Unless we are hardened,
the millions of eyes begin to madden us; and for ever pushed and jostled
by crowds we begin to take more kindly to Malthus, and are even willing
to think better of Herod and other wholesale depopulators.

children. He wakes up early in the morning while they are still asleep
and hurries off to his office.
There it is his duty to display the qualities of a great executive; he
cultivates a firm jaw, a decisive manner of speech, and an air of
sagacious reserve calculated to impress everybody except the office boy.
He dictates letters, converses with various important persons on the
phone, studies the market, and presently has lunch with some person
with whom he is conducting or hoping to conduct a deal.
The same sort of thing goes on all the afternoon. He arrives home, tired,
just in time to dress for dinner. At dinner he and a number of other
tired men have to pretend to enjoy the company of ladies who have no
occasion to feel tired yet. How many hours it may take the poor man
to escape, it is impossible to foresee.

He became tired.

You look dead beat.

You look tried. Had a big night?

A schoolgirl went to a famous musician's concert. The concert lasted for
an hour. When it was over, she applauded his passionate performance and
clapped for a long time. Then at the stage door the girl asked the
violinist for his autograph. "Sorry, not now." he replied impatiently,
"My hands are tired." "Instead of taking offense, the schoolgirl
replied, "My hands are tired, too ! " This witty remark defeated the
musician. So she got the autograph, and the two parted good friends !

< Last Christmas > Sung by Wham
**
Last Christmas
I gave you my heart
But the very next day
You gave it away
This year
올해는
To save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special
-
**Repeat
-
Once bitten and twice shy
I keep my distance
But you still catch my eye
Tell me baby do you recognize me
Well it's been a year
It doesn't surprise me
-
Happy Christmas
I wrapped it up and sent it
With a note saying I love you I meant it
Now I know what a fool I've been
But if you kissed me now
I know you'd fool me again
-
**Repeat twice
-
A crowded room
Friends with tired eyes
I'm hiding from you
And your soul of ice
My god I thought
You were someone to rely on me
I guess I was a shoulder to cry on
-
A face on a lover with a fire in his heart
A man under cover
But you tore me apart
Now I've found a real love
You'll never fool me again
-
**Repeat twice
-
A face on a lover with a fire in his heart
A man under cover
But you tore me apart
Maybe next year I'll give it to someone
I'll give it to someone special

Mr. West, I presume?
I'm pleased to meet
you. Nice to meet you. How do you do?
「12시간의 비행」이라고 하는 a 12-hour flight는 a flight 속에

Mr. Lee: Excuse me, Mr. John West, I presume?
Mr. West: Yes. Are you Mr. Lee?
Mr. Lee: Yes. I'm Lee Chul-su of Alpha Electric. Welcome to
Korea. I'm pleased to meet you.
Mr. West: I'm pleased to meet you too, Mr. Lee.
Mr. Lee: It's rather late, so perhaps you would like to go to
your hotel straight away.
Mr. West: Yes, I'm rather tired after a 12-hour flight.
Mr. Lee: I've got my car in the parking lot, so let me take
you to your hotel. Have you got your baggage? Is that all you
have?
Mr. West: Yes, that's right.
Mr. Lee: I'll carry one for you.
Mr. West: That's very kind of you.
