**시간관련 표현 - 주의**
1. # "a.m."이나 "p.m."을 써서 나타내는 방법
- 언제나 숫자와 함께 쓰인다.
그 전차는 오후 5시에 출발한다.
The train leaves at 5 p.m.
학교는 아침 8시에 시작된다.
School starts at 8 a.m.
우리들의 점심시간은 12시부터 1시까지이다.
Our lunch break is from 12 noon to 1 p.m.
# 숫자를 쓰지 않는 경우는 "a.m."이나 "p.m."을 쓰지 않는다.
오늘 아침 this morning 내일 오후 tomorrow afternoon
2. "o'clock"을 써서 나타내는 방법시간과 분을 표현하려면 이런 형이 된다.
5시반 half past five o'clock
forty-thirty o'clock이라고는 하지 않는다.
3. "a.m."이나 "p.m."이나 "o'clock"을 쓰지 않을 때의 표기법
# "in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening, at night"과 함께
"a.m."과 "p.m."을 쓰지 않는다.
오후 8시 at 8 p.m./ at eight in the evening
밤 11시 11 o'clock at night/ eleven o'clock at night
4. "noon"과 "midnight"의 사용법
"noon"정오과 "midnight"한밤중은 그 단어만으로 나타낸다.
그러나 동일문장 안에서 다른 시간이 숫자로서 표시되어 있을 때에는
"12 noon"이나 "12 midnight" 등의 형태를 취한다.
두번째 교대는 한밤중에 끝납니다.
The second shift ends at midnight.
두번째 교대는 4시부터 한밤중인 12시까지입니다.
The second shift runs from 4 p.m. to 12 midnight.

연도를 읽거나 표기하는 방법에는 다음 두 가지가 있습니다.
1) 앞에서부터 두 단위씩 묶어서 읽거나 표기함
1998: nineteen ninety-eight
주의! 1909(nineteen oh-nine)처럼 뒤 두 자리가 10 미만인 경우
'oh-'를 넣어서 읽고 표기해야 합니다. (참고로 '10시 5분' 표기법은
'10:05', 읽는 법은 'ten oh-five'입니다.)
2) 전체를 하나의 숫자로 읽거나 표기함
1998: one thousand nine hundred ninety-eight 또는 nineteen hundred
ninety-eight

<참고 1>1000년, 2000년, 3000년 등의 경우 읽거나 표기할 수 있는
방법은 한가지밖에 없지만 (one thousand , two thousand, three
thousand...)
1001년, 2001년, 3001년 등의 경우는 one thousand one 또는 one
thousand and one, two thousand one 또는 two thousand and one,
three thousand one 또는 three thousand and one...으로 읽고 씁니다.

<참고 2>위의 '...and one' 표현이 일반화되기 시작한 것은 영화 2001:
A Space Odyssey 때문입니다.
주의하실 것은 1002년, 2002년, 3002년 등부터는 '...and...'표현을 쓸
수 없습니다. 1001년, 2001년, 3001년 등에서만 '...and one' 표현이
쓰인다는 얘기입니다. 그러므로 2002년은 two thousand two 이겠죠?

'1000년 ~ 1100년', '2000년 ~ 2100년', '3000년 ~ 3100년' 등의
경우에는 (두 단위씩 묶어서 읽고 쓰는 것보다) 전체를 하나의 숫자로
읽고 쓰는 것이 보편화되어 있습니다.
끝으로 주소도 연도처럼 읽습니다.

언어나 다른 형식주의에 첨가되어 인간에게 더욱 달콤하게 다가갈 수 있게 하는 특징적 기능.
하지만 형식주의의 표현성 자체에는 영향을 주지 않는다.
특히 '사탕' 기능을 표기상에 이미 제공되는 구성요소로 번역하는 일이 명백하고
하찮은 것일 때 쓰이는 용어. C언어에서의 배열 표기법 a[i]는 포인터 표기 *(a + i)의
문법적 사탕이다.
