◆ frighten, scare, startle, terrify

◆ egotism and egoism
1) egotism : 자기중심벽(I, my, me 따위를 지나치게 쓰는 일), 자만(selfconceit),
제멋대로 하기 -> 약간 부정적인 말로 자기 자만으로 인해 지나치게 과장되고 현실과
다르다는 함축적인 의미를 갖습니다. 전형적인 egotism의 사상을 갖고 있는 사람들은
자기 덕으로 인해 세상이 모든 일이 무리없이 되고 있다고 생각합니다.
=. His egotism alienated all his friends.(그는 자기중심적이어서 친구들과 멀어졌다.)
=. It was a piece of blatant egotism.(그것은 분명한 자만이다.)
2) egoism : [[논리]] 이기주의, 이기설(opp. altruism), 자기중심[본위], 이기심, 야욕
(selfishness) -> egotism 보다는 폭넓게 쓰여 애매모호한 말인데 자기 자신을 위주로
생각하나 반드시 우월주의 개념을 내포하는 것은 아닙니다. 이 용어는 심리학에서
종종 등장하기도 합니다.
