The Korean economy is based on exports. Last year, the nation's
exports grew a hefty 24.1 percent on a volume basis and contributed to
economic growth of 9 percent. But shipments were up only 14.1 percent
in the second quarter of this year, compared to the 21.1 percent in the
first quarter. In July, Korea's exports dropped 3.6 percent from the
previous month, the first net decline in three and a half years.

올 상반기 예금은행 가계신용 증가율이 지난해 6월 말 대비 4.3%에 그쳐 관리목표치를 초과 달성할 가능성까지 제기되지만 개별은행을 들여다보면 총량규제에서 제외되는 중금리대출을 빼더라도 연초 이후 증가폭이 규제 수준에 근접했다는 분석이다.
