Yesterday I went to a bookstore to buy a book about computers.

So great is our passion for doing things for ourselves, that we are
becoming increasingly less dependent on specialized labor.
No one can plead ignorance of a subject any longer, for there are
countless do-it-yourself publications.
Armed with the right tools and materials, newly-weds gaily embark
on the task of decorating their own homes.
Men of all ages spend hours of their leisure time installing their own
fireplaces, laying out their own gardens; building garages and making
furniture.
Some really keen enthusiasts go so far as to build their own record
players and radio transmitters. Shops cater to the do-it-yourself
craze not only by running special advisory services for novices,
but by offering consumers bits and pieces which they can assemble
at home.
Such things provide an excellent outlet to pent-up creative energy, but
unfortunately not all of us are born handymen.

One may think that a new and strange flower would attract the eye more
readily than a known one, but it is not so: the old is discovered much
more easily than the new.
"Out of sight, out of mind," says the proverb; and conversely that which
is not yet in mind will long stay out of sight.
But when once a new flower, even a rare one, has been discovered, it is
curious how often it will soon be noticed afresh in another place:
this must be the experience of all who have made systematic search
for flowers, and it explains why the beginner will frequently see but
little where the expert will see much.

'live
A:How are you getting along?
B:I'm living from hand to mouth. I mean I'm just surviving.
A:I hear that you applied for a better-paying job.
B:Yes, I went to a nursery, and they told me they were short of hands.
A:So, you got a job, right?
B:Right, but after I got the job, the nursery changed hands.
Unfortunately, the new owner is a real miser.
A:Really?
B:He dismissed half of the hands, and cut down my wage because I was
a new hand, not a green thumb.
A:정말?
<어구풀이>

◆ beginner, apprentice, novice, neophyte~
We have several piano lessons for children and beginners.
He is a writer whose first book reveals him to be an apprentice rather than a mature artist.
Look at a novice workman and compare his results with those of an expert.
4) neophyte : novice
I consider him as a political neophyte.
Six eight-year old tyros arrived for their lesson, their new rackets neatly held in their hands.

Matt : Apparently, Denver wanted to deal with him instead of you.
Jerry: Said who? Sugar?
Matt : I'm learning as I go here.
Jerry: So you empowered Bob Sugar to deal with Denver BEHIND MY BACK?
Matt : I'm sorry. I love my son.

Jerry: I love your son. I love your son.

Denver deals with me all the time!

You listened to Sugar!
