The teacher who gave physical punishment to a student was sued by his parents.

Isn't it natural that a student who has done something wrong receives corporal punishment?

It depends on the level of punishment.

In North America, physical punishment by parents, as long as it is not severe, is seen as necessary discipline by many people.
However, sociological researchers and parents have insisted that we seriously consider stopping the physical punishment of children.
The most important reason is that all people have the right to protect themselves, and children are people, too.

All parents agree that children must learn the difference between right
and wrong. In order to teach this lesson, they sometimes punish their
children. But ideas a bout how to punish children differ from culture to
culture and family to family. Some parents believe that spanking children
is the best way to punish. Others think that parents should never hit
their children. Most parents punish their children in the same ways that
they were punished by their parents. In short, there is a lot of
disagreement about the best way to punish children.

Human rights are guaranteed from cradle to the grave, and students therefore are no exception, but to use physical punishment in schools is an education decision not a legal one in Korea.
The Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development sent strange guidelines to schools concerning the size of cane and places to be hit, but this attempt to ban it legally is even stranger.

Men are more likely to favor spanking than women and
less likely to feel guilty about it, the poll indicated.
* spanking :체벌
* indicate : 나타나다, 지적하다
