예문에서 볼 수 있듯이 사용되는 표현은 앞서 말씀 드린 몇
가지만 알아 두고 있으면 같은 것들이 반복되어(repetitively)
나타나고 있으므로 그다지 어렵게 생각하실 필요는 없습니다.
문제는 이러한 용어들이 여러분들의 머리 속에 한 묶음으로
얼마나 잘 정리되어 있느냐 하는 것입니다.
유출되는 정보는 일반적인 수준의 것(common or mediocre
technology)은 해당이 안되고 보통 잘 나가는 첨단
기술(up-to-date technology)입니다. 따라서 이러한 기술, 정보
유출과 관련하여 같이 알아두실 것 중의 하나가 첨단기술을
가리키는 말일 것입니다.
첨단 기술은 간단히 advanced technology라고 해도 되나 그
외에도 많이 사용되는 것으로 high-technology (줄여서
high-tech)가 있고 예술의 경지에 이른 기술이라 해서
state-of-the-art technology라고도 합니다. 여기서 state는
경지, 상태라는 말이므로 직역해서 예술(the art)의
경지(state)가 되므로 쉽게 기억하실 수 있을 것입니다.
state-of-the-art는 많이 사용되는 표현이므로 잘 기억해 두시기
바랍니다.
그 외에도 top-notch technology라는 말이 있는데 notch가 기다란
기둥 같은 것에 눈금을 새겨 넣어 비교 따위를 위해 이용하는
것이라 하면 그러한 눈금 표시 중에서 가장 높은 것에 해당된다는
의미에서 top notch는 가장 높은 수준의, 가장 발달한 것을
비유할 때 사용되고 있습니다. 따라서 top-notch technology 역시
첨단 기술을 가리키는 용어 중의 하나입니다.
"정교하게 잘 발달된"이라는 의미로 사용되는 것으로는
sophisticated가 있습니다. sophisticated technology라는 말도
많이 사용되고 있으므로 함께 알아 두시기 바랍니다.
이제까지의 용어에 어느 정도 익숙해 있다면 기업
비밀(industrial secrets 또는 technological secrets) 유출과
관련된 산업스파이 활동에 대한 기사는 별 어려움 없이 접하실 수
있으리라 생각됩니다.

industrial or technological secrets.

allowing foreign firms to have as much as a 50 percent stake in Chinese
telecommunications providers. In addition, international companies would
be able to invest in Chinese Internet content and service providers.

how vigorously the U.S. government presses China on enforcement, said
Greg Mastel, an analyst with the Center for National Policy in
