technic과 technics는 잘 쓰이지 않는다. 형용사로서 technic은 폐어가 되어 technical(공업에 관한, 공예의, 전문적인)이 대신 쓰이고, 명사로서는 대체로 technique(기술, 기법, 기교)가 대신 쓰인다. ‘과학 기술, 기술학’을 의미하는 경우에는 technology로 바뀌어졌다.
technique는 특히 예술의 ‘기술, 기법, 기교’를 가리키는 데에 쓰이는 말이며 미국 속어 용법에서 ‘사교적 솜씨’를 의미한다.
