Mannesmann spokesman Manfred Soehnlein refused to comment Saturday on
the reports, calling them speculative. But he suggested that Mannesmann
would dig in its heels and reject any such offer from Vodafone - its
partner in three mobile phone businesses in Europe.
만프레드 숀라인 만네스만 대변인은 이같은 언론보도에 대해 추측일 뿐이라며
Vodafone이 이 같은 제의를 해오더라도 Mannesmann은 거절할 것이라고
밝혔다. 보다폰은 유럽에서 만네스만과 3가지 이동전화사업의 파트너이기도

But Vodafone's immediate interest stems from Mannesmann's friendly $32.9
billion takeover last month of Orange PLC (Nasdaq:ORNGY - news), the
smallest of Britain's four mobile telephone carriers.
Mannesmann은 지난달 영국 4위의 이동전화사업자인 오렌지사(Orange PLC)를
3백29억 달러에 인수(우호적 인수)했었다.
If Vodafone does acquire Mannesmann, it will almost certainly have to
sell off Orange because British law bars any single company from holding
more than one mobile phone license.
만일 Vodafone이 Mannesmann을 인수하면 한 기업에 2개 이상의 이동전화사업
허가를 금지하고 있는 영국법에 따라 Orange PLC를 매각해야 한다.
Mannesmann has evolved into Germany's No. 1 mobile company since buying
two Italian phone companies this summer in a deal with Olivetti. It
dropped out of the bidding earlier for the British mobile firm One2One,
which German rival Deutsche Telekom bought for $11 billion in August.

Gent offered 43.7 Vodafone shares for each Mannesmann share. The
proposal values Mannesmann at 203 euros a share, or $209.50, a 9.4
percent premium to Mannesmann's share price on Friday and a 25 percent
premium to the share price before speculation about a deal arose.
젠트회장은 만네스만 1주에 보다폰주 43.7주의 맞교환을 제의했다. 이는

The offer values the entire company, including its planned acquisition
of the British mobile phone operator Orange PLC, at $106.4 billion.

their wireless telephones.''
