Statistics show that about 25,000 foreigners are now employed by
Korean shipping firms, an explosive increase over the less than 200 on
Korean vessels in 1993. This reliance on foreign labor is likely to
grow due to the increasing unwillingness of Korean workers to take on
so-called 3D (difficult, dirty and dangerous) jobs, despite the
government's ban on crews in which foreigners outnumber Koreans.
통계에 의하면, 한국 선박회사에 고용되어 있는 외국인은 모두 25,000명으
로, 1993년에 200명에 비하면 폭발적인 증가를 나타내고 있다. 정부가 외국
인 선원의 수를 한국인의 수보다 초과하지 못하도록 금지한 규정에도 불구
하고, 한국인들이 소위 3D업종(힘들고, 더럽고, 위험한)을 기피하고 있기 때
문에 외국인 노동자에 대한 의존도는 날로 늘어날 것으로 보인다.
