These days urban lifestyles seem to change very fast. It is more than
just clothing and hairstyles that are in style one year and out of date
the next; it's a whole way of living. One year people wear sunglasses on
top of their heads and wear jeans and boots; they drink white wine and
eat sushi at Japanese restaurants; for exercise they jog several miles a
day. However, the next year everything has changed. Women wear long
skirts; people drink expensive water from France and eat pasta at
Italian restaurants; everyone seems to be exer- cising at health clubs.
Then, suddenly, it has changed again. People wear only natural fabric
(safe for the environment); they drink gourmet coffee and eat Thai food;
for both leisure and exercise, they go rollerblading.
요즈음 도시 생활 유형이 매우 빠르게 변하는 것 같다. 변하는 것은 한해
동안 유행하다가 그 다음해에는 구식이 되고마는 옷과 헤어스타일뿐만이
아니다. 즉, 모든 생활방식이 변하고 있는 것이다. 어느 해엔 사람들이 머리
위에 선글래스를 쓰고 청바지와 부츠를 신고, 백포도주를 마시고
일본식당에서 생선회를 먹고, 운동으로 하루에 몇 마일씩 뛴다. 그러나
다음해에는 모든 것이 바뀐다. 여성들은 긴 스커트를 입고, 사람들은
프랑스산 비싼 물을 마시고, 이탈리아 식당에서 파스타를 먹고, 모든
사람들이 헬스클럽에서 운동하고 있는 것처럼 보인다. 그런 다음에 갑자기
상황이 다시 바뀐다. 사람들은 환경에 해를 끼치지 않는 자연섬유 옷만을
입고, 고급커피를 마시고, 태국 음식을 먹고, 여가와 운동을 겸해서 롤러
블레이드를 탄다.
좋다는 식품은 한 동안 유행하다가 어느 순간에 다른 식품으로 바뀌는 경우가 많은데, 그 또한 오래 가지 못한다.
