Sun Microsystems Inc (Nasdaq:SUNW - news)., a developer of servers,
workstations and software for networked computing, plans to tout its
recent acquisition of Star Office, a free suite of office applications,
that competes with Microsoft's Office.

The new brand, which will also feature the word ``invent,'' is aimed at
building a single image around HP's product lines, which include
printers, disk drives, hand-held computing devices, desktop computers,
Unix-based workstations and million-dollar servers.

VA Linux Systems was founded in 1993 by its chief executive Larry
Augustin, while he was a Stanford University graduate student.

Augustin has joked that his biggest claim to fame was that he started a
Linux company, building Linux workstations in his living room, instead of
joining fellow students David Filo and Jerry Yang as they started up
Yahoo! Inc.

windfall for themselves, as well for members of the Linux software
