◆ skillful, adept, dexterous, versatile
1) skillful : 과거에 많은 노력과 훈련으로 얻은 기술을 바탕으로 일을 쉽고 빠르게 처리 할 때 사용.
A fisherman needs to be skillful at choosing the right moment to put the line into the water.
(낚시꾼에게는 알맞은 때에 낚시줄을 던지는 기술이 필요하다.)
2) adept : 세심한 주의나 기술이 요구되는 어떠한 일에 정통하다는 말로
예를 들어 사람이나 사회적인 문제를 다루는데 있어 능력이 있다는 말.
Of all our staff, Peter is the most adept at dealing with difficult customers.
(우리 직원 중에서 피터는 대하기 힘든 고객들을 가장 잘 다룬다.)
3) dexterous(dextrous) : 능력, 재주가 있다는 의미로 사용되며 특히 손을 잘 다룰 때 쓰임. (cf. adroit)
John, who I met in the musical band, is dexterous in playing a keyboard.
(음악 밴드에서 만난 죤이라는 사람은 키보드 연주에 능하다.)
4) versatile : 어떤 기술을 빠르고 쉽게 배울 수 있는 능력을 나타내는 말로 모든 방면에 뛰어난 사람을 일컫는다.
Shirley is a very versatile cook. She can do Chinese, Indian, or Italian food, in fact anything you want.
