영화 스태프 가운데 소도구 담당자로 번역되는 '그립'은, 크게 전기 부문 담당자(Electri-
cians)와 도구 담당팀(Grips)으로 나뉘어진다.
전기 부문 담당자들은 직책 그대로 촬영 중에 소비되는 모든 전기 동력의 공급을 책임지고
있으며, 도구 담당팀들은 촬영장에서 필요로 하는 물건 등을 원활하게 관리, 보급하는 일을
담당하고 있다. 연극 무대에서 '그립’은 흔히 무대 담당원(Stagehand)으로 지칭된다. 다시
요약하면 '그립’은 영화세트장의 잡다한 일을 수행하는 노동자라고도 할 수 있다.
종종 '그립'은 그들의 직업 성격에 따라 여러 가지로 세분화되는데, 즉 '건축 그립

'그립'의 어원은, 건축장의 발판재료(Scof- folding), 조명 보급기(Lighting Diffusers) 등을 이용
해 자신들의 직책을 완수하는 노동자란 뜻에서 나왔다. 그럴 수밖에 없는 것이 이 단어는 건축
장의 발판재료, 조명 보급기 등을 이용해 자신들의 직책을 완수하는 노동자를 지칭하는 것이었
다.
또한 그립을 운영, 관리하는 최고 책임자를 키 그립(Key Grip)이라고 하고, 그의 수석 보조
자를 그립 베스트 보이(Grip Best Boy)라고 호칭한다.
