* Drop me a line를 글자 그대로 번역하면 '나에게 줄을 하나
떨어뜨려 달라'란 뜻이 되는데 이런 뜻이 아니고 '편지 해'
'소식이나 주게'란 말이다. line은 간단한 편지, 엽서를
가리키고 drop은 '보낸다'는 뜻이다. Let's keep in touch.도
같은 뜻인데 소식 끊지 말고 서로 touch(연락,접촉)를
유지하자는 뜻이다. 떠나는 사람이 I'll be in touch라고
하면 '종종 연락할께'란 뜻이 된다.

A:도착하시면, 엽서를 띄워주세요.
B:네, 꼭 그러죠.
- 곧 엽서로 통지하겠습니다.
이런 경우 '곧'이라는 것이 '집에 돌아가면 곧'또는 '연락은 받으면 당장
에'라는 의미라면 '시간을 낭비하지 않고'라는 뜻이니까 "I will waste
no time."또는 "I'll lose no time."을 사용한다. 만약 '지금 곧'이라는
뜻이라면 at once, right now가 좋겠다. '통지하다'는 let you know이다.
let를 다만 '-케 하다'라고만 알고 있으면 응용범위가 좁아진다. 이 let
you know등의 let는 '허락하다'의 의미로서 '당신이 아는 것을 허락하다'
라는 기분이 담겨 있는 것이다. 응용으로서 '가르쳐 주세요'의 Please
let me know가 있다.
