Sound Vacation Practices : 휴가를 건전하게
With the end to the rainy spell that took many lives and the arrival of
the truly hot weather, people have been moving out on summer vacation.
Highways around the country are now packed with so many cars
carrying summer travelers that some sections have virtually become
parking lots.
많은 인명을 앗아간 장마가 물러가고 본격적인 무더위가 다가오면서, 수
많은 사람들이 여름휴가를 나서고 있다. 전국의 고속도로는 여름 행락객을
실어 나르는 수많은 차량들로 붐비고 있으며 어떤 구간은 아예 주차장이 되
어 버린 곳도 있다.
Despite these positive aspects, however, vacations also involve many
nuisances that are a by-product of a general lack of public morality.
Besides the terrible traffic jams, bad-smelling garbage piles up
everywhere and vacationers find themselves paying through the nose
for food and accommodations. People seeking peace and quiet camping
out at resorts are also disturbed by boisterous singers, frantic dancers
and gamblers playing ``hwatu'' (flower cards) late into the night.
이러한 긍정적인 면이 있음에도 불구하고, 여름휴가는 일반 국민들의 공
중 도덕심 결여로 많은 짜증스러운 면도 내포하고 있다. 끔찍한 교통 체증

식이나 숙박 값에 바가지를 쓰는 일 등이다. 유원지에서 평화롭고 조용한

Such control by the law enforcement authorities is necessary but
even more important is the general public's good sense and positive
desire to be moral, voluntarily abide by the rules and maintain public
order. Parents are advised to use the opportunity provided by summer
vacations to teach their children not to litter, not to disturb others with
their raucous games and generally to follow society's rules.

발적으로 도덕심을 발휘하여 규정과 공공 질서를 준수하겠다는 양식을 지녀

Another suggestion is that families can also profitably spend the
vacation resting at home and in neighborhood parks, or going to
performances, art exhibitions and public libraries. This form of
physical and mental relaxation promotes the quality of life with the least
burden on the pocket and the least wear and tear on the body.
가족들이 여름휴가를 유익하게 보내는 또 하나의 방안은 집이나 가까운
공원에서 휴식을 취하면서, 공연장이나 전시회 혹은 공공 도서관을 찾는 것
이다. 이런 형태의 육체적 정신적 휴식은 최소의 비용으로 육체적인 소모없

정말 신경질 나게 하는군-It's really getting to me- 정말 신경질 나게 하는군
'짜증 나게 만들다', '신경 쓰게 만들다'는 뜻에는 'irritate', 'annoy', 'bother', 'bug'등등의 단어를 쓰면 좋다. 예를 들어 어떤 사람이 추근추근 무얼 캐묻는다거나 빈정대는 경우, 짜증내지 않을 사람은 없을 것입니다. 이럴 때 보통"He really irritates me" 또는 '신경을 건드린다'는 뜻을 살려서 "He's getting on my nerves."라고 합니다.
물론 위에서 열거한 나머지 단어들을 각각 쓸 수도 있습니다.
그런데, 이러한 표현도 기본동사의 하나인'get'으로 간단히 말할 수 있다는 데에 회화의 묘미가 있습니다. 예를들어 '그녀의 태도에 난 정말 비위가 상해.(그여자 하는짓이 정말 역겹군)'라는 표현은 'get'을 써서 "Her attitute really gets me." 라고 하면 됩니다.
한편, 지금까지 살펴본 'get'은 타동사의 경우이고, 자동사로도 '짜증 나게 하다.'라는 뜻을 말할 수도 있습니다. 자동사'get'을 사용해서 말할 경우에는 'get to someone'이라고 하면 됩니다. 즉 'get'다음에 'to'만 붙이면 되는 것입니다.
요즘 A 군은 대학입시에 낙방해서 어깨가 축 늘어져 있습니다(feeling depressed). 그래서 그의 친구들은 어느날 A 군을 저녁식사에 초대해서 그의 기분을 북돋아주려고 합니다. 하지만 그는 계속 기분이 나아지지 않고 낙방 때문에 짜증만 납니다. 이럴 때 표현(He failure is reallly getting to him.)
또 한가지의 예, 연 한달간이나 내리는 지루한 장마로 인해 모처럼의 여름휴가 계획이 깡그리 망쳐질 판입니다. 이럴땐 누구를 원망할 수도 없죠? ' 우띠~ 짱나, 정말 신경질나게 만드는군.'이라는 말이 절로 나오죠? 이를 영어로는 "This rotten weather is really getting to me."라고 합니다
