어려서

이 소년은 아직 나이가 어려서 학교에 못 간다.
This boy is not old enough to go to school.

Of course I'm far too young to remember.
물론 저야 너무 어려서 기억이 나지는 않지만요.

11개월쯤이 되어야 두 발로 걷기 시작하는게 보통인 듯하다. 「두발로 서다
」라는 식의 stand on one's own feet은 「자립하다」라는 의미를 가진다.
A:I hear that your wallpaper store is very prosperous.
B:That's true. The secret of my success lies in the fact that I stood
on my feet at an early age.
A:Really? Did you stand on your feet when you were very young?
B:That's right.
A:Oh, you mean you could walk at a tender age and made the walls of
your house messy with all kinds of graffiti? That's why you decided to
run a wallpaper business!
B:Oh, no, no, no! I mean I learned to be independent of my parents
when young.
A:벽지 가게가 성황을 이룬다면서요.
B:그렇습니다. 제 성공의 비밀은 제가 어렸을 때 두발로 섰다(자립을 했다)
는데 있는 것 같습니다.
A:정말요? 어렸을 때 일어섰군요?
B:그렇습니다.
A:오, 그러니까 아주 어려서부터 걸음마를 할 수 있었고, 그래서 벽마다
낙서로 더럽혔었군요. 그래서 벽지사업을 하시기로 결정했군요.
B:오, 그게 아닙니다, 그게 아닙니다. 제가 뜻하는 건 어려서부터 부모님
한테서 자립하는 것을 배웠다는 겁니다.
