I visited a home for senior citizens every Saturday.

When my grandmother began to have problems in seeing, hearing and walking, a number of family meetings were held.
We discussed what we should do for her.
We talked of placing her in a nursing home, but that idea was quickly given up.
Although my grandmother would be with more people of her own age, she would see even less of her family, and that would break her heart.
Mother would not allow her own mother to grow old and weak in a strange place.
She said, “I will not let Grandmother end up in a nursing home,”
and I admire my mother greatly for this decision.
It was not an easy decision for her.
When so many others are running away from the problem of what they should do about their old parents, my mother stands out remarkably.

Fresh Food Bank, the first in South Africa, has been set up by the Fresh Produce Market and Johannesburg City to help feed the needy.
The program was officially launched by Mayor Masondo yesterday.
“This program aims to provide for the immediate and basic needs of those who are most vulnerable in this city,” he said.
Fresh foodstuff will be distributed to orphanages, old age centers, the homeless and the disabled.
The program was originally designed by the market wholesale suppliers to help the orphans.
And its scope has expanded since Johannesburg City decided to cooperate.
Bernard Magabe, an executive of the food bank, said that the joint venture would serve as an example to other cities.
남아프리카에서 최초인 신선 식품 은행은 빈곤 계층에게 식량을 지원하기 위해 청과물 시장과 요하네스버그 시에 의해 설립되었다.

"The world will be warmer when we unite to help our neighbors," he said, visiting and volunteering in underprivileged places such as nursing homes and nursery schools at ordinary times.
