visually-handicapped college student attending class with his
guide dog has become a hot topic of conversation.

화제거리가 있다. 강의실에서 함께 수업을 받고 있는 시각장애 대학생
과 그 안내견이 화제의 주인공.
Choi Tae-hwan, 29, a sophomore majoring in political science at
Kyunghee University, and his guide dog ``Ungdae'' have become
inseparable.
경희대 정치외교학과 2학년에 재학중인 시각장애인 최태환군(29)과
안내견 '웅대'는 서로 뗄래야 뗄 수 없는 사이.

donated the seeing-eye dog to Choi last Aug. 30.
지난 8월 30일, 안내견 학교를 운영하는 삼성화재보험이 최군에게 맹
인 안내견인 `웅대'를 기증했다.
Choi was quoted as saying that Ungdae is very helpful to him in
leading his daily life. He voiced the hope that the public's
biased perception toward the guide dog will change, saying that
he has often been turned away by restaurant owners.
최군은 "`웅대'가 있어 일상생활에 큰 도움이 된다"면서 "다만 한
때는 음식점에서 개를 데리고 들어왔다는 이유로 쫓겨난 적도 있는데
안내견에 대한 사람들의 편견이 달라졌으면 좋겠다" 라고 희망 섞인
목소리로 말했다.
Unofficial figures show that there are about 10 seeing-eye dogs
which are giving a helping hand to the visually impaired.
비공식 통계에 의하면 국내에서 활동하고 있는 시각장애인 안내견은
약 10여마리 정도라고 한다.
