"not in my backyard" 하는 것에 대한 머릿글자를 딴 말입니다.

I could see apartments and buildings everywhere."

Everyday I see more and more trees being cut down to make space for new apartment buildings.

I'm thinking to rent out my house and move to a small apartment.

After living for years in the roomy old farmhouse, I felt as constrained as a prisoner in a cell when we moved into that small apartment.

In that neighborhood of small homes, a few massive apartment buildings protrude like giants set down in a community of dwarfs.

The people who live in the city are hurrying out of apartment houses.
Everyone is in a hurry.
Some stop only to drink a quick cup of coffee.
There's no time for breakfast.
Others stop to buy the morning paper.
They read the headlines before they hurry on to the tall building where they work.

Jean bought a small cellular phone for her boyfriend.
She wrapped the gift and put it on a table.
The next day, all that remained of the present was torn wrapping paper.
The woman searched her apartment for the phone, but found nothing.
She decided to dial the phone's number and heard it ringing where her dog was sleeping.
At first she thought the dog was lying on the phone, but then realized that the phone was ringing inside the dog.
She rushed the dog to the vet, who determined that the dog had indeed swallowed the phone.
The vet told the woman that her dog was not in danger and told her to let nature take its course.
The phone emerged from the dog the next day in perfect working order.
Jean

Taipei is a lively and expensive city.
About 6 million people live in and around the capital of Taiwan and it is full of liveliness.
Apartments are almost impossible to buy in Taipei and the government encourages enterprisers to locate their companies in other parts of the country.
Taipei may not be a relaxing place but the food is excellent,
the people are friendly, and there are some wonderful things to see, like the Grand Hotel.

As many factories started to be built and cities grew, there were more and more jobs in city areas.
As more people moved to cities for the jobs, they needed places to live in.
Soon houses gave way to apartment buildings.
Also, to provide goods and services for so many people, new businesses grew up in the cities.
These new businesses also needed space, and unused land was hard to find.
When most of the land was taken up, builders started to build in the only direction left―up! This is why skyscrapers were first built in the cities.

Alice got up late this morning and hurriedly went out of her apartment.
Realizing that the elevator was not working, she walked down 10 floors.
When she reached her car, it occurred to her that she might have forgotten to turn off the gas range.
With a sigh, she climbed breathlessly up the stairs, only to find that the range had been turned off.
It goes without saying that she was blamed by her boss for not being on time.

In the mid-sixties, a lawyer made an agreement to give some money every month to an old lady in her seventies.
After she died, he would then live in her apartment.
This contract seemed beneficial to both of them.
As for the old lady, she received a fixed amount of money from him monthly.
And as for the lawyer, he would obtain the apartment without paying a large amount of money at one time.
Besides, he thought that she would die before long considering the average life expectancy.
In those days, it was about 70.
However, she lived to be 122 years old.
He had given money to her for 30 years, but he died in advance of her.

My family and I lived in an apartment until last spring.
We weren't happy there because the building was crowded and noisy.
We decided to move.
Finally, my husband and I found a small house in a neighborhood that wasn't bad.
The problem was the house itself.
The wallpaper was horrible; there were scenes of hunting all over the bedroom walls!
The porch and roof needed repairs.
The garden consisted of weeds, and a few half-dead plants with insects all over them.
When our kids first saw their new home, they burst into tears.
I understood that.
I wanted to cry, too.

A while back, I read about a 5-year-old boy who lit a match and burned down the entire apartment building.
It was an accident, but nevertheless, it left 20 families homeless, and the businesses on the ground floor were forced to relocate.

Lately, it seems most of the apartment fires in my area have been caused by children playing with matches or lighters.
I don't understand why parents leave these things around where youngsters can get their hands on them.
This is gross negligence.
Kids will always be curious, but parents must do more than just tell them that fire is dangerous.

Private interior space includes the inside of homes and apartments.
Public interior space consists of the inside of public buildings: schools, restaurants, museums, and stores.

Report from England, 1993: The higher people live off the ground the more likely they are to suffer from mental illness.
Women, because they spend most time at home, suffer most.
Report from Denmark, 1996: Children from high buildings are frightened of playing outside on their own.
They play outside at a later age than children from low buildings.
Report from the USA: In comparing two buildings, one high-rise and the other low, crime is much more likely in the high-rise than in the low building.

At a height of four stories there is still some connection with the street.
Above that, the connection is lost.
But we continue to build high-rise buildings for people to live in.
In Chicago, there is an apartment building 197 meters tall.
Chicago
It rises seventy stories above the street, and that is sixty-six stories above the four-story limit.

A new ad posted in our apartment house by a young boy announced that he would
wash a car for 50 cents. I promptly took advantage of his offer and, knowing that I was
his first customer, gave him an extra quarter for a job well done. Upon passing his sign
about ten minutes later, I was amused to see that it now read: "Car Wash 75 cents -
Experienced."

Most people have covered the windowpanes of their homes or apartments with
thick black paper or tinfoil, in order to keep the lights on during the blackout. The
reason is not so much the fear of air strikes as the noisy urging of young people and
children who act as self-appointed civil defense wardens. The briefest glimpse of light
from a window starts a chorus of "Turn it off" from a dozen directions.

Burglars frequently stroll apartment hallways and residential streets looking
for the door that opens with the turn of a knob.

Now there is a remembrance in Grace's apartment, but there are also four young people
who, whatever direction they take, are bound to remember a strange city where a lady
took the trouble to be friendly to them.

After parking our car at my daughter's apartment late Saturday night,
I noticed the one next to it had its lights on. I left a note on the
windshield with the telephone number, saying I'd come down and give
the battery a boost if needed.
About 3 a.m. the phone rang and a man said, "I'm sorry to bother you,
but I read your note and sure would appreciate a boost."
I turned on my car lights to see what we were doing, and after I got
him started, he offered to pay me. "No thanks," I replied. "Just
help some other motorist sometime."
When I went to my car on Sunday morning, I discovered I had left
my lights on, and the battery was dead.

There's a hardware store behind my apartment.

Any apartment will do as long as the rent is reasonable.

Apparently the shabby flat is vacant.

This suite is three times larger than my condominium.

There is an apartment for rent.

As you know. I have lived in this apartment for the last ten years
and the lease has been renewed three times. The rent has risen each time,
but always until now, by a reasonable amount. One hundred percent,
though, is an absolute scandal, and I am not prepared to pay such a large
increase. It is wrong to ask the tenants to pay a large increase when
nothing has been done to improve the condition of the apartments. In
tact, the front entrance is a disgrace. I am sure it is hardly ever
cleaned.

Korea's rapid economic development over the past couple of decades has changed the country in many ways.
The physical changes are the most obvious
―the neon signs, the glass tower skyscrapers and clean wide tree-lined boulevards, the modern hi-rise condominium complexes and crowded express ways.

Nowadays Koreans are more likely to live in hi-rise condominium complexes than in houses and do their shopping in huge discount stores or shopping centers instead of at traditional markets.
An increasing number of Koreans now sleep on beds, communicate through computers, cook on microwave ovens, watch video movies at home on wide-screen TV sets.

Another early Native American tribe in what is now the southwestern part
of the United States was the Anasazi. By A.D. 800 the Anasazi Indians
were constructing multistory pueblos - massive, stone apartment
compounds. Each one was virtually a stone town, which is why the Spanish
would later call them pueblos, the Spanish word for towns. These pueblos
represent one of the Anasazis' supreme achievements.

At least a dozen large stone houses took shape below the bluffs of Chaco
Canyon in northwest New Mexico. They were built with masonry walls more
than a meter thick and adjoining apartments to accommodate dozens even
hundreds, of families. The largest, later named Pueblo Bonito (Pretty
Town) by the Spanish, rose in five terraced stories, contained more than
800 rooms, and could have housed a population of 1,000 or more.

AIDS victims suffer knowing that there is not yet a cure for their
disease; it is terminal. To add to this suffering, AIDS victims often
experience discrimina- tion. They might not be hired for a job or they
may lose a job if it is known that they have AIDS; they may not be able
to rent apartments as easily as they could without the disease; the
courts will often convict people who have purposely spread the AIDS
virus, imposing unusually harsh sentences on them; and insurance
companies may refuse to offer health or life insurance coverage to
clients who indicate that they are HIV positive and, therefore, at high
risk of getting AIDS.

The great cities have been built with no regard for us. The shape and
dimensions of the skyscrapers depend entirely on the necessity of
obtaining the maximum income per square foot of ground, and of offering
to the tenants offices and apartments that please them. This caused the
construction of gigantic buildings where too large masses of human
beings are crowded together. Civilized men like such a way of living.
While they enjoy the comfort and banal luxury of their dwelling, they do
not realize that they are deprived of the necessities of life.

Guys? There's a somebody I'd like you to meet.
W-wait. What is that?
'That' would be Marcel. You wanna say hi?
No, no, I don't.
Oh, he is precious! Where did you get him?
My friend Bethel rescued him from some lab.
That is so cruel! Why? Why would a parent name their child Bethel?
Hey, that monkey's got a Ross on its ass!
Ross, is he gonna live with you, like, in your apartment?
Yeah. I mean, it's been kinda quiet since Carol left, so...
Why don't you just get a roommate?
Nah, I dunno... I think you reach a certain age, having a roommate is kinda pathe-
....sorry, that's, that's 'pathet', which is Sanskrit for 'really cool way to live'.
So you guys, I'm doing all new material tonight. I have twelve new songs about my mother's suicide, and one about a snowman.
Might wanna open with the snowman.

I'm tellin' you Ross, she wants you.
She barely knows me.
We just live in the same building.
Any contact?
She lent me an egg once.
You're in!
Aw, right.

Are you dad's girlfriend?
No. No. I, uh...
I just... I... I work for your dad.
Then why do you have the keys to his apartment?
Will you make us pop-tarts?

And I might also mention your girlfriend, her mother, and her aunt
who are also undocumented and living in an apartment you pay for.
Prison time for you, deportation for them.
Not a pretty picture, is it?

So you didn't quit today.
I did, but I changed my mind.
This isn't your decision to make.
I'm keeping my job and I'm keeping this apartment.
No, you're not.
- You promised you'd make this go away.
- And you're starting over...
I already started over. I don't want to start over again.
I wish you didn't have to.
Get out.
나가요
Get out!
Lower your voice.

Well, neighbors heard a gunshot at their apartment five days ago.
The "Grieving" husband...
his name is Scott Shelton.
What was her name?
Kaye screamed at me a lot, that's for sure,
but I didn't kill her.
In fact, I was out of town last week, at a convention.
Yeah, in New Orleans soaking up the gumbo. You told us.

So this neighbor-lady...
who told me that she heard a gunshot
and a woman's scream inside your apartment?
What, she just imagining things?
It was probably our TV.

Okay, forget time of death,
how does your client explain Kaye's blood all over his apartment wall?
Quite simply. Scott has three prior complaints for abuse
What's to say the blood didn't get there during one of those altercations?
"Altercations"
upgraded from wrestling.
This is good:
admitting to prior abuse, to cover up actual murder.
My client and I are leaving.
And Mr. Grissom,
thank you.

Catherine.
You sure you want to do this?
Why is everybody asking me if I want to do my job?
Because we care.
And
그리고
The Mayor ran on a platform of urban renewal.

Clean out the slumlords,

you know who it's going to come back to.
I know I have a job to do. Excuse me.

Nick, get a warrant for Jessica Hall's apartment.

And bring a scorecard with you.

No. No discoloration.
Would you like to know why?
Sure.

Five years ago, this building was apartment Vietnam.
The facility was sub-standard.
The city turned it's back. The tenants revolted.

Public record?

I took this from our suspect's apartment.
Husband and wife. Carjacking. I heard about the case.

It wasn't a carjacking.
It's a fresh pad. Only a couple pages missing.

Only about ten times this month.
This is Vegas. / Would you be able to recognize any of these guys?
Well, I'd have to be looking at them in the face now, wouldn't I?
I guess we should have known if our guy was planting hairs he was planting semen.
Yeah. Probably in little hollowed-out packets of ketchup.
I didn't really find anything instructive but Warrick hit pay dirt.
Well, I went back Audrey Hayes' apartment
and I paid particular attention to the point of entry.

You were in my apartment.
Now, nothing from there's admissible in court.
Your garbage is in a public area ...

Oh, there's no stuff to go through. It's a freak show.
I mean, you could do surgery in here.
Oh...
이런..

You want truth or support?
Did you think I didn't know I fucked up?
I've been saying it.
I have $45,000 in student loans to pay off,

How come nobody's yelling at me?
- You know how bad you screwed up, right? - Yes.
- Is there anyone who feels worse than you do? - No.

Then I doubt it'll ever happen again.

You advised her to do what?
