During my lunch hour, I made a purchase at a crowded bookstore and decided
to charge it. The two clerks were harried, and my transaction was traded
from one woman to another.
When I got outside, I noticed I had both the customer and merchant copies
of the charge form. I thought to myself that I'd just gotten a free book.
But by the time I sat down at my desk, my conscience was bothering me,
and I reached for the phone. When a clerk answered, I explained the
situation and told her I'd return their copy after work.
"Thank you," the woman replied. "I'm glad you called. You left your
charge card on the counter."
점심 시간 중 어느 고객이 붐비는 서점에서 책을 사고 신용 카드로 결제하기로
했다. 점원 두 사람이 계속 시달리는 바람에 내 계산은 한 여자에게서 다른
여자에게로 넘어갔다.
밖으로 나왔을 때, 고객용과 상인용 두 개의 신용거래 용지가 내 손에 있는
것을 알았다. 책을 공짜로 얻었다는 생각이 들었다. 그러나 책상 앞에 앉는
순간 양심이 나를 괴롭히기 시작해서 전화기를 잡았다. 점원이 전화를
받았을 때, 나는 상황을 설명하고 퇴근 후 용지를 돌려주겠다고 말했다.
"고맙습니다," 여자가 대답했다. "전화해줘서 기뻐요. 당신은 신용카드를
카운터에 놓고 갔더군요."

오브나이트 론(O/N. over-night loan): 뉴욕 등 금융시장에서 증권 딜러들이
증권 거래를 위해 제공하는 최단기 신용의 한 형태로 사용되었으나
일반적으로 하루 짜리 신용거래를 의미.

올해 2월부터 10조원대를 지속한 신용거래융자 잔고는 미중 무역분쟁 등 대내외 불확실성 때문에 주가가 약세를 보이자 7월 말 9조원대, 8월 초 8조원대로 급감했다.
The balance of credit transaction loans, which has continued to reach around 10 trillion won since February this year, plunged to around 9 trillion won in late July and 8 trillion won in early August as stock prices weakened due to internal and external uncertainties such as the U.S.-China trade dispute.

개인 투자자가 빚을 내 주식에 투자하는 신용거래융자 규모도 9조원대로 뛰어올랐다.

개인 투자자들이 빚을 내 주식을 사들인 신용거래융자 잔고도 이달 18일에 3월 이후 두 달여 만에 10조원대로 올라섰다.
The balance of credit transaction loans borrowed by individual investors to buy stocks also rose to around 10 trillion won on the 18th of this month for the first time in two months since March.
