I painted the town red last night.
I recall watching Das Boot as originally distributed in the U.S.―in German, with English subtitles.
It was a fabulous movie, and I thought the actors' native German language contributed substantially to the feeling of compelling unreality that gave the movie such a powerful effect.
I enthusiastically took friends to see it again some months later―after it had gotten popular and was dubbed into English
―and found that the dubbing had stripped much of the movie's dramatic power.
Exiting the theater, I didn't have the same remarkable feeling I'd had with the original,
when I'd felt like I was a German sailor escaping a steel-walled watery tomb.
애초에 독일어로 녹음되고 영어 자막을 가진 상태로 미국에 배포된 “Das Boot”라는 영화를 본 생각이 난다.
그것은 멋진 영화였으며, 배우들의 모국어인 독일어가 그 영화에 매우 큰 효과를 주는 비현실성을 그럴듯하게 느낄 수 있도록 실질적으로 기여한다고 생각했다.

A doctor was in the bathroom of a lunatic asylum watching his mad patients

David said, "Why don't you fish here with me, sir?"
The old man answered with a smile, "I should like to, but I'm sorry I can't."
David then said, "Well, it won't be a crime if I catch some fish here,
will it?"
"Oh, no," answered the old man, "it won't be a crime, but it will
certainly be a miracle."
대이빗는 대도시의 사무실에 근무하는 청년이었다. 그의 취미는 송어

awkward situation in the classroom and social life. The world is
thankful to the person who can create laughter. There is something
about it which sweeps away worry, jealousy, and even disgust.
