One of the most impressive collections of nineteenth-century
European paintings in the United States can be found in the
Philadelphia Museum of Art.

museums devoted to the decorative arts and many house museums, but

사용되는 박물관은 많고 또한 주택박물관(사람이 거주하는 집이면서 박물관인
곳)도 많이 있다, 그러나 미국에서 큰 시골집에 큰 소장품이 전시되는 곳은
드물다.

Winterthur remains, then, a house in which a collection of furniture and
architectural elements has been assembled. Like an English country
house, it is an organic structure; the house, as well as the collection
and manner of displaying it to the visitor, has changed over the years.
The changes have coincided with developing concepts of the American
arts, increased knowledge on the part of collectors and students, and a
progression toward the achievement of a historical effect in period-room
displays. The rooms at Winterthur have followed this current, yet still
retained the character of a private house.
Winterthur 는 그 안에 가구와 건축적 요소들의 한 소장품이 조합된 하나의
집으로 남아있다. 영국의 시골집처럼 그것은 하나의 유기적 구조물이다. 그
소장품과 그것이 전시되는 방식이 변해온 것처럼 그 집도 역시 수년간에
