Statistics show that about 25,000 foreigners are now employed by
Korean shipping firms, an explosive increase over the less than 200 on
Korean vessels in 1993. This reliance on foreign labor is likely to
grow due to the increasing unwillingness of Korean workers to take on
so-called 3D (difficult, dirty and dangerous) jobs, despite the
government's ban on crews in which foreigners outnumber Koreans.
