disaster는 별의 불길한 배치(a bad configuration of the stars), 즉 불행과 불운(bad luck)이 어원적인 뜻이다. 또한 부주의·태만·그릇된 판단, 또는 태풍·홍수 같은 자연력으로 불시에 일어나는 불행한 발생사를 말하기도 한다.

의미하는 말이지만 이 노래에서는 홀로 외로운 싸움을 하고 있는 주

trade는 '직업(occupation)'이라는 의미로도 자주 쓰이는 말이다.

을 지불할 돈이 없어서 양복까지 빼앗긴 비참한 상황을 풍자적으로 재미있
게 묘사한 가사를 담고 있는 노래이다. 'lose one's shirt'라는 표현이 있다
. 양복에 한술 더떠서 「셔츠까지 잃게 되다」라는 이 표현은 「무일푼이
되다」라는 의미를 가진다.
A:Why are you so depressed?
B:I'm afraid I lost my shirt.
A:Oh, don't worry. You can borrow some of my shirts. I have lots of
shirts.

◆ bear, endure, stand, tolerate
bear 는 일반적인 말로 무거운, 또는 어려운 일을 참는 힘을 강조합니다.
I can't bear any more pain. : 고통은 이제 더 못 참겠다.
I can't bear to see the miserable people. : 비참한 사람들을 차마 볼 수가 없다.
I can't bear to eat that. : 난 그것은 도저히 먹을 수가 없다.
endure 는 bear 보다는 위엄이 있는 말로 오랜 기간에 걸쳐 상당한 노력을 하여 견디어 내다는 뜻이 있습니다.
I cannot endure one misery after another. : 나는 계속되는 불행을 견딜 수 없다.
I cannot endure to listen to your complaints all day long. : 당신의 불평을 하루 종일 듣고 있을 수 없다.
그리고 stand 는 불쾌한 일을 견디다, 싫은 것에 대해 자제심으로 참다 는 뜻입니다.
