[比較] order, command, instruction, direction, directive, injunction
ex) He paid alimony by court order.
ex) I'm in command here.
ex) Please read the instructions before assembling the antenna.
ex) If he follows my directions, he can't miss Rockefeller Center.
ex) A directive was issued by the Secretary of State on conduct of Foreign Affairs Officers.
ex) In spite of all injunctions of secrecy, the news had spread.

One day, a poor man named Scott, came to visit Taylor.
He said, “Taylor, I need your help. I am a poor man, a man with no money.”
Taylor looked at him kindly and answered, “I'll help you. Tell me what's wrong.”
Scott said, “Yesterday I stopped in front of the door of a restaurant.
The restaurant belonged to a rich man.
I only smelled the food.
However, he wanted me to pay him for the food.
And he called the judge.
The judge said I must go to the court today.
Please Taylor, can you help me?”
In the court the rich man began shouting angrily at Scott.
And the judge asked Scott to pay him right now.
Taylor stepped forward and then said, “This poor man is my elder brother. I will pay you instead.”
After he heard this, the rich man smiled, thinking about his payment.
Then Taylor took a bag of money from his belt, a bag of copper coins.
He bent down next to the rich man and shook the bag.
“Listen. Do you hear this sound?” said he.
“Of course I hear it,” shouted the rich man impatiently.
“Well, then,” answered Taylor, “the problem is solved. The debt is paid.
My brother has smelled your food, and you have heard his money.”
The poor man was saved.
Taylor

During his years as mayor of New York City, Guardia sometimes presided as judge in a night court.
In one case, a man was found guilty of stealing a loaf of bread.
He claimed that he had committed that theft to feed his starving family.
“The law is the law,” La Guardia declared.
“I must therefore fine you $10.”
When the man sadly confessed that he had no money, the judge took $10 out of his wallet and paid the fine.
He also asked each person in the courtroom to contribute 50 cents to help the man.
There and then, they accepted his request.
Finally, the law-breaker was set free and even blessed with an undeserved gift.

Driving fast last Monday, I was pulled over by a police officer.
The officer noticed that my shirt had the name of a local secondary school on it.
“I teach math,” I explained.
He smiled and said, “OK. Here's a problem. A teacher is speeding on the highway at 25 kilometers over the limit.
At $12 for every kilometer over the limit, plus $40 court costs, what is her total cost?”
I replied, “taking that total, subtracting the low salary I receive, multiplied by the number of kids that hate math,
then adding to that the fact that none of us would be anywhere without teachers, I'd say zero.”
He handed me back my license, “Actually, math was never my favourite subject. Please slow down.”

When two people have troubles with each other, they often look to the law to decide who is right and who is wrong.
Laws exist so that there are guidelines for behavior ― what is the right thing to do and what is not right.
Unfortunately, as lawyer Peter Smith says in his book, the two sides in a court case can never really win.
The ones who “win” are the lawyers.
Even when one person is the “winner” in a court case, that person must pay his or her lawyers, must pay court costs, and suffers from bad feelings
― particularly the hostility of the other person in the case.
So Peter Smith suggests another solution that can save you from wasting time and money.

The room was so silent that one could have heard a pin drop.
Kerry watched as the verdict was passed over to the judge.
He opened the envelope.
At the sound of paper tearing, her heart was thumping.
The judge cleared his throat, and drew in a breath of air.
“After hearing from both sides in this court, and listening to all the events throughout the past five years,
the court has decided to rule in favor of Mr. Paul Martin,” the judge announced.
Kerry felt the ground fall from beneath her.
She was speechless.
Now all was lost.
Paul Martin
Kerry

Roman law has had a deep influence upon the law of the world.
The law of most European countries is based upon it, and it has had some influence on Anglo-Saxon law, which is the other great law system of the world.
For many years Roman law seemed to be lost or forgotten, but it reappeared in the eleventh century, when there was a great revival of learning.
Many European countries began to use Roman law in their Courts.
In France, however, until Napoleon codified the law in 1804, each province had its own laws.
The Napoleonic Code was a splendid achievement, and has been copied in many countries in Europe and South America.

Joey Adams says he heard of a woman who stood up in a divorce court
and said she didn't want alimony. "All I want," she started "is for my
husband to leave me as he found me." "And how was that ?" the judge asked.
"I was a widow."

Perhaps stymied by her spirited defense, the court went into an unexplained
recess, leaving the debate phase to be finished later, possibly next week.

The word justice is usually associated with courts of law. We might say
that justice has been done when a man's innocence or guilt has been
proved beyond doubt. Justice is part of the complex machinery of the law.
Those who seek it, undertake an arduous journey and can never be sure
that they will find it. Judges, however wise or eminent, are human and
can sometimes make mistakes.

The purpose of the court system is to protect the rights of the people.
For example, according to American law, if someone is accused of a crime,
he is considered innocent until the court proves that the person is
guilty. In other words, it is the responsibility of the court to prove
that a person is guilty.

For a long time, people have believed that photographs tell us the truth;
they show us what really happened. People used to say "Seeing is
believing," or "Don't tell me, show me," or even "One picture is worth a
thousand words." In courts of law, photographs often had more value than
words. These days, however, matters are not so simple. Photographs can be
changed by computer; photographs are sometimes false.

because you had, ah "personal business."
Yeah.

Grissom gets you to dime yourself off. And now you both feel better.
You're supposed to be in court instead
you're placing bets for a cheap thrill to satisfy nothing?

Look, what you do on your time is nobody's business.
What you do on my time is my business.
Warrick Brown had one of my guys sub for him in court.
But I have it on good authority that he was gambling.
Warrick has a problem.
Ignoring it isn't gonna make it go away.
I won't let you down again.

I got to say, I'm impressed.
You two just put on quite a show.
Think you can do it again at trial?
It's our job.
We'll, see you in court, Sam.

Any chance you guys found the murder weapon.
No. No, but I think we know who to ask.
I haven't seen Joseph Felton since the trial. Two years ago.
So it's a coincidence that he was killed shortly after you were released from prison.
Yeah. Guy put me in jail. I had no reason to see him again.
He put you in the "Gray Bar." Sounds like motive to me.

When are we due in court?
The pre-lim's tomorrow morning, nine a.m.
Then I'd better hurry on bail.

Frank.
You have the right to remain silent.
Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law.
Am I late?
Oh, you're worth waiting for.
You owe me one, Darin.
I owe you?
I'm the one who told you the truth about your "father."
And you knew exactly what I'd do about it.
Where to?
Does it matter?
Not in the least.

We didn't want him to grow up with the stigma of
"The boy who killed his brother."
He's three,
he's clinically unaware of his actions. No court would hold him accountable for that.
But everybody else would know.
And it'd follow him the rest of his life.
And my wife would rather go to prison
than have anybody know what Robbie did.
Mr. Anderson, we won't let that happen.

Well, this amount of blood suggests that the victim was killed here.
Why don't I do the one-to-ones and you start looking for the weapon?
Yeah whatever punctures, whatever chops.
Bob Villa.
Paul Bunyan.
By the way, what about my evaluation?
Keep up the good work, Catherine.
Are those molds dry yet?
They're tacky.
Hmm, positive to positive.
That'll never hold up in court, though.
We're going to need to make negative molds.

You were in my apartment.
Now, nothing from there's admissible in court.
Your garbage is in a public area ...
plain sight.
It's enough for me to get a warrant.

I'm telling you, dad didn't come home last night.
They had a fight -- a bad one.
How bad?
Like divorce court bad.

And, by the way, you publically accuse them of negligent homicide
and you're wrong, they will take you to court.
They will win and they will end up owning AWM.
They will have their own record label.
They will have theme parks.
Let's throw out the rundown.
- Attaboy. - This is out of control.

That studio is a courtroom
