Seoul Metropolitan Government Office and the Subway Corporations' hanging up of signs that do not even meet primary school level.
일본식 법률용어를 사용해야 권위가 있다고 착각하는 법조계, 굳이 쉬운 우리말을 두고 어려운 한자말을 고집하는 국회,
초등학생 수준도 안 되는 길거리 안내문을 버젓이 내다 거는 경찰청·서울시청·지하철공사 등이 그런 경우다.
◆ have, hold, occupy, own, possess
위 단어들은 모두 "가지다"라는 소유를 나타냅니다.
1) have : 소유의 상태를 나타내는 일반적인 말.
2) hold : 손에 쥐거나 보유하다(종종 have보다 강한 통제력을 암시).
3) occupy : 사물을 hold하고 사용하다(반드시 소유권이 있는 것은 아님).
4) own : 구체적인 것의 소유권을 가지고 있다 (남이 hold하고 있어도 좋음).
5) possess : (own과 같은 뜻으로 쓰일 때도 있으나) 법적으로 소유하다(점유를 강조하며 대체로 법률용어).
- My children have had bank accounts since they were eight.
(우리 아이들은 어렸을 때부터 은행계좌를 가졌다.)
- I have two younger brothers and one sister.
(나는 두 남동생과 여동생 하나가 있다.)
- My sister was holding her puppy.
(내 여동생은 강아지를 꼭 붙들고 있었다.)
- The town was occupied by the enemy for two months.
(그 도시는 2개월간 적군에게 점령당했다.)
- Who owns this land?
(누가 이 땅의 임자냐?)
- How I longed to possess a suit like that.
(그런 옷을 얼마나 갖고 싶어 했던가?)
