교 사: 다음에 또 늦으면 뭐라고 말할래?

교 사: 그만. 학교에 남아. 방과후에 보자.
T : What's wrong with S1? Why is he lying on his face?
S2 : He's not feeling well. He has caught a bad cold. He has been sick for two days.
T : Oh! That's too bad. You should be careful about your health, especially during the winter.
S1 : (Standing up) Mr. Shin, may I go to the infirmary to take medicine and rest for a while? I have a fever and a bad headache. I can't stand it any longer.
T : Of course you may go. And after school, you'd better go see a doctor.
교 사 : S1에게 무슨 일이 있어요? 왜 엎드려 있죠?
학생2 : 몸이 좋지 않아요. 독감에 걸렸거든요. 이틀동안 몸살을 앓고 있어요.
교 사 : 이런, 참 안됐군요! 여러분도 특히 겨울에는 건강에 신경을 써야 합니다.
학생1 : (일어서면서) 선생님, 양호실에 가서 약 좀 먹고 잠시 쉬어도 될까요? 열도 있고 지독한 두통이 있어요. 견딜 수 없어요.
교 사 : 물론 가도 좋아요. 그리고 방과후엔 의사의 진찰을 받는 것이 좋겠군요.

Then my dad came home.
We went to the room.
I tried to play the piano―it was totally out of tune as it had always been.

Once upon a time, the animals organized a school.
옛날에 동물들이 학교를 세웠다.
They adopted a curriculum consisting of running, climbing, swimming and flying.
그들은 달리기, 오르기, 수영, 날기로 이루어진 학습 과정을 채택했다.
All animals took all the subjects.
모든 동물은 그 모든 수업을 받았다.
The duck was excellent in swimming, better in fact than his instructor, and made excellent grades in flying, but he was very poor in running.
오리는 수영에 뛰어났다. 사실 교관보다도 나았다. 그리고 날기에서 뛰어난 점수를 받았다. 그러나 달리기에서는 형편없었다.
Since he was low in running he had to stay after school and also drop swimming to practice running.
오리는 달리기에서 쳐졌기 때문에 방과후에도 남아서 수영을 생략한 채 달리기 연습을 해야만 했다.
This was kept up until his feet were badly worn and he was only average in swimming.
이것은 그의 발이 닳아서 수영에서도 보통이 될 때까지도 계속되었다.
But average was acceptable in school, so nobody worried about that except the duck.
그러나 보통은 학교에서 받아들일 수 있었고, 오리를 제외한 아무도 그것에 대해 걱정하지 않았다.
The squirrel was excellent in climbing until he developed frustrations in the flying class where his teacher made him start from the ground up instead of from the tree-top down.

He also developed charley horses from over-exertion and he got poor grades in climbing and running.

I remember I had quite pleasant activities after school. When I
returned home after school, dinner was usually ready. When I finished my
homework after dinner, I went to the swimming pool or to the public
library. During the weekends, I went with my father to the movie theater
or to a museum. These activities, however, were quite different from my
mother's.

◆ make, let, have
make는「…시키다」로「강제, 사역」을, have는「…하도록 가져가다, …해 받다」라는「약한 사역」,
let은「…하게 내버려두다」로「허가, 허용, 방임」의 뜻.
have
1. (사역) <남에게> 시키다[하게 하다];▶ have 대신에 get을 쓰는 것은 주로 (口)이나,
get에서는 [Ⅴ명to do]형이 되는 일에 주의. 의미상으로 have는 get보다 간접적이고 소극적인 사역을 나타냄이 보통).
Have him come here at five. 5시에 그를 여기로 오게 하시오.
I must have him help me with my homework. 그에게 내 숙제를 거들어 달라고 해야겠다.
I had two dogs die of snakebite. 나의 개 두 마리가 뱀에게 물려서 죽었다.
2. (피해) <남에게> …당하다.
He had his only son killed in the war. 그는 외아들을 전쟁에서 잃었다.
3. (사역) <사람물건을> 시키다, 해받다(▶ have에 강세).
I had the house painted. 집에 페인트칠을 시켰다.

1. <남에게> (…하는 것을) 허락하다, 시키다

She went because her mother made her (go). 그녀가 간 것은 어머니가 가도록 시켰기 때문이다.
