◆ respect, esteem, regard
respect는 상대의 인격, 인품 따위를 훌륭한 것으로 여겨 존경한다는 뜻입니다. 연장자에 대해 많이 쓰입니다.

--> 비록 내가 그를 좋아하지는 않지만 나는 그의 지성을 존중한다.

esteem은 바람직한 목표로 높이 평가하다 는 뜻입니다.

--> 사회는 무엇을 존중하고 무엇을 무시해야 하는 지 알고 있다.
regard는 존중한다는 뜻이 위의 단어보다 약하며, 특별히 고려해 주다정도로 쓰입니다.
