Celebration, indeed. Bah!
In my day, we'd have fantastical feasts
when I lived in the palace.
And now look at me.
Wasted away to practically nothing.
Banished and exciled and practically starving.
While he and his flimsy fish folk celebrate.
Well, I'll give him something to celebrate soon enough.

We were chatting on the phone and at the end of the conversation,
my son said, "Mom, I'm going to shave my head."
I was shocked and asked him why he would want to do such a thing, for he has wonderful thick, blond, curly hair.
His answer was that he wouldn't have to bother brushing it and he'd save money on shampoo.
It did not make much sense to me.

Well, as in most work situations, we have a problem here with communication.
That is, most managers do not want to hear people complain, and most employees are afraid to come right out and say what they feel.
They usually won't say what they like or don't like.
They may complain to each other during lunch or after work, but they do not complain directly to the manager.
It is important, however, for a manager to find out if he or she is doing a good job.
One way to do this is to give employees a chance to talk.
Employees need an opportunity to say what is wrong, what they don't like about the work situation, and what they would change to make their work better.

Archibald Spooner was well known in England for his slips of the tongue.
He was a teacher at Oxford University and a clergyman as well.
Dr. Spooner suffered from nervousness and poor eyesight.
This may have made it difficult for him to see words correctly and to repeat them accurately.
One time he told a student that he had “hissed the mystery lectures” when he meant to say “missed the history lectures.”
He told another student that the young man had “tasted a worm.”
He meant to say that the student had “wasted a term.”
Today, this particular type of pronunciation error is often called a “Spoonerism.”
Archibald Spooner
한번은 그가 어떤 학생에게 ‘missed the history lectures'(역사 강의를 빼 먹었다)를 말하려고 하면서, ‘hissed the mystery lectures'라고 말한 적이 있었다.

It is difficult to say just how urbanized the world has become.
With urban growth taking place rapidly, it is impossible even for experts to do more than provide estimates.
According to the UN data, almost half of the world’s population is now urban.
These data make the very different definitions of urban used by different countries.
Some countries count any settlement of 1,000 people or more as urban,
while others use 10,000 as the minimum for an urban settlement; and Japan uses 50,000 as the cut-off.
This, by the way, tells us that urbanization is a relative phenomenon.
In countries like Peru, a settlement of 2,000 represents a significant center.
However, a much larger concentration of people is required to count as “urban.”

When I was working in the yard, my four-year-old son, Tommy, came running over to me.
He asked me to get his ball out of a hole.
He said that the ball had rolled into the hole while playing soccer in the driveway.
I tried to reach my hand for it but the hole was too deep.
I brought a long stick, but it was not helpful.
I said to my son, “I'm sorry, but there seems to be no way to get it out.”
Then my son said, “Why don't we float it out?”
We filled the hole with water and, to our great relief and delight, the ball floated to the top!

Sleepwalking and sleep-talking seem to be different sleep disorders.
Sleepwalkers are capable of walking down stairs or out of doors, all the while remaining fast asleep.
Sleep-talkers, in contrast, stay still, but they effortlessly carry on long conversations.
To be sure, what they say doesn't make any sense.
Yet despite the differences, there are some similarities between the two sleep disorders.
During their walking or talking hours, neither sleepwalkers nor sleep-talkers remember what happened the night before.
Also, both disorders appear to be passed down from parents to children.

Making socialism out of capitalism is easy.
It's like breaking eggs and making an omelet.
You nationalize everything and say it's ours.
To make capitalism out of that kind of socialism is much more complicated.
It's as hard as making eggs out of an omelet.

A: How do you know that?
B: I was talking with one of the players on the team.
He said that the new coach is a genius at strategies on the football field, and he puts the team through some of the roughest training they've ever had.

Several friends were discussing the subject of fortune telling. One said
that, when he was young, a fortune teller predicted he would have more
money than he could count, and another predicted he would open a bank.
His mother was overjoyed to hear these prophecies.
As it turned out, both fortune tellers were correct. This man works in
a bank. Every day he counts stacks and stacks of money―for the customers.
And it is his duty to open the bank's door every morning to start the
day's business.

National characteristics are not easy to pin down, and when pinned down,
they often turn out to be trivialities or seem to have no connection
with another.
Spaniards are cruel to animals, Italians can do nothing without making
a deafening noise, the Chinese are addicted to gambling.
Obviously such things don't matter in themselves.
Nevertheless, nothing is causeless, and even the fact that Englishmen
have bad teeth can tell one something about the realities of English life.

B:Well. it's hard to say. I like all kinds of sports, but I like tennis the

A:How about a game sometime?
B:Sorry. I only like to watch people play it.

This can hardoy be the answer to the question.

An African friend of mine recently said, "You Americans always speak
of individualism as being good. We do not consider individualism good. We
feel that an individualist is lonely one." If you talk to a Frenchman, on
the other hand, he will say, "You Americans are not individualistic at
all. You have no sense of individualism." To Americans an individualist
is someone who takes care of his own life, while to Frenchmen an
individualist is someone who is different from others.

In a meeting of animal Space Scientists, the chimpanzee proudly
announced, "We sent a rocket to the moon. It stayed there for a whole
month before making the long trip back to Earth." "That's nothing," said
the fox. " We already sent our spaceship to straight to the sun." The
chimpanzee and the fox laughed loudly and said, "Don't be silly. The
rocket will melt before it gets there." "No, it won't," said the pig.
"We're sending it up at night."

4) Beauty & the Beast - Celine Dion & Peabo Bryson
===============================================
Tale as old as time
True as it can be barely even friends
Then somebody bends unexpectedly
Just a little change
Small to say the least
Both a little scared
Neither one prepared
Beauty & the Beast
Ever just the same, ever a surprise
Ever as before, ever just as sure
As the sun will rise

Perhaps Love
P. Domingo & J. Denver
Perhaps love is like a resting place
A shelter from the storm.
It exists to give you comfort.
It is there to keep you warm.
And in those times of trouble
When you are most alone.
The memory of love will bring you home.
-
Perhaps love is like a window
perhaps an open door.
It invites you to come closer.
It wants to show you more.
And even if you lose yourself
And don't know what to do.
The memory of love will see you thru.
-
Oh! love to some is like a cloud
To some as strong as steel.
For some a way of living
For some a way to feel.
And some say love is holding on
And some say letting go.
And some say love is everything
Some say they don't know
(*)
Perhaps love is like the ocean
Full of conflict full of pain.
Like a fire when it's cold outside
Thunder when it rains.
If I should live forever
And all my dreams come true.
My memories of love will be of you.
-
And some say love is holding on
And some say letting go.
And some say love is everything
Some say they don't know
(Repeat *)

-

Tom's diner

I am sitting in the morning
At the diner on the corner
I am waiting at the counter
For the man to pour the coffee
And he fills it only halfway
And before I even argue
He is looking out the window
at somebody coming in

"It is always nice to see you"
Says the man behind the counter
To the woman who has come in
she is shaking her umbrella
And I look the other way
As they are kissing their hellos
And I'm pretending not to see them
And instead I pour the milk

It was no one I had heard of
And I'm turning to the horoscope

Does she see me
No she does not really see me
'Cause she sees her own reflection
And I'm trying not to notice
That she's hitching up her skirt
And while she's straightening her stockings
Her hair is getting wet

Oh, this rain
It will continue through the morning
As I'm listening to the bells of the cathedral
I'm thinking of your voice
And of the midnight picnic
Once upon a time before the rain began
And I finish up my coffee
And It's time to catch the train

The scientifically valid procedure in language learning involves listening first, to be following by speaking.
Then comes reading, and finally the writing of the language.
This is just the order in which a child learns his mother tongue―first hearing, then speaking; and only after he has acquired considerable facility in understanding and speaking, does he learn to read and write.
However, most traditional methods of teaching languages to adults have almost completely reversed this process―first comes reading, closely linked with writing.
Then, after one is supposed to have acquired a knowledge of reading and writing, classes are offered in conversation.

Although it seems simple enough to say that people who are suffering and who have no chance to recover would be better off by being allowed to die,
many people oppose making euthanasia legal for several reasons.
A few of them are
1. Difficulty in determining who is terminally ill.
Some people who are expected to die sometimes get well.
2. Religious beliefs.
"God gives life; only God can take it away."
3. It could lead to "suicide on demand."
Maybe someday anyone who is unsatisfied with his or her life might be able to receive help in dying.
4. Period of depression.
The person requesting to die might just be going through a temporary phase and might later change his or her mind.

The advocates of "2001" usually say that since a century is 100 years, a millennium is 1000 years,
and the calendar began with year 1, therefore all subsequent centuries will begin with a year 1 (e.g. 1901), and all millennia will begin with a year 1 (e.g. 2001).
There is no year zero.
Fair enough. However, when calendars were invented that numbered the years, whether the regal years of Egyptian Kings or a continuous count like the Seleucid Era, the number systems used did not contain the number zero.
There could be no year zero when there was no zero.
Also, years were thought of as ordinals: the first year of a reign was thus year 1.
People who still think in these terms I will call "Ordinalists."

“Phytoplankton grows on a seasonal basis in the oceans around the world,” said Filippelli.
“Over longer time scales, we know that ocean plant life was at its most robust in the Southern Ocean during glacial intervals?for example, about 150,000 years ago, and then again 20,000 years ago.
The question has been, what caused the increases in productivity?”

The bacterium “uses TCA in the same manner that people use oxygen,” said Griffin.
“This is the first known bacterium that breathes the chlorinated solvent TCA.
It breathes TCA, and the only way we know how to grow the bacteria is to feed them TCA.”

Kie Ho has the same opinion as Harris. In “We Should Cherish Our
Children's Freedom to Think,” Ho compares his son with himself when he
was his son's age. He says his son is very creative and can do many
things by himself. But Ho had to memorize things his teachers told him
to, and he feels that he is less creative.

- I did, but we have two weeks before-- - Because of what happened?
- No. - Because the second half was a rousing call to--
- It has nothing to do with what happened. - The timing is curious.

I tried to get in touch with you while you were on vacation.
Nobody seemed to know how to do that.
Or at least they weren't willing to say.
Actually, I've tried to get in touch with you
a lot of times in the last three years.
Did you get all those e-mails?
- Yeah. - What did you think?
- I didn't read them. - I understand.
There's no need to apologize.
Thank you.

- No. - What about the guy at Halliburton?
I didn't say he was a guy, but we'll call him that.
And he is solid.
You guys have to follow up on this, all right?
You're gonna wanna open with the Coast Guard search
and then pivot to this because...
- Neal. - Neal says...
It's gonna be the biggest environmental disaster in history.
- Oh, my God. - Jesus Christ.

Like I said, you wouldn't remember, but I wanted to thank you--

And he said, "McAvoy, you're a Republican nitwit

Moses and Jesus are playing golf.
Moses steps up to the tee and hits a beautiful shot
250 yards straight down the middle of the fairway.
Jesus steps up to the tee and hooks the ball into the trees.
Jesus looks up into the heavens, raises his arms.
Suddenly the sky darkens.
A thunderclap rings out.
Rain pours down and a stream rises among the trees.
The golf ball, floating on top, finds its way
into the mouth of a fish.
Then a bird flies down and takes the fish and the ball
out over the green, drops it in the cup for a hole in one.
