In the Mtro, you have to open the doors yourself by pushing a button, depressing a lever or sliding them.
대부분의 지하철 전동차에서 문들은 각각의 정거장에서 자동으로 열린다.
그러나 파리의 지하철인 메트로를 타면 사정이 다르다.
나는 메트로를 탄 한 남자가 전동차에서 내리려다가 실패하는 것을 지켜보았다.
전동차가 그가 내릴 정거장으로 들어 왔올때 그는 자리에서 일어나 문이 열리기를 기다리며 문 앞에 끈기 있게 서있었다.
그런 일은 일어지 않았다(문이 열리지 않았다).
전동차는 그저 다시 떠났고 다음 정거장으로 계속 갔다.
메트로에서는 단추를 누르거나 레버를 내리누르거나 문을 옆으로 밀어서 승객 스스로 문을 열어야 한다.

그나마 오늘은 다행스럽게도 앞에 서 있던 차들이 모두 나가서
쉽게 차를 뺄 수 있었다. 계기판을 들여다보니 기름이 별로
없었다. 가는 도중에 기름을 먼저 넣어야겠다. 기껏 안전벨트까지
매고 보니 사이드 미러가 접힌 채로 그대로 있다. 할 수 없이
투덜거리며 다시 나와 원상태로 돌려 놓았다. 백미러와 좌우
사이드 미러를 조정하고 시동을 걸었다. 김이 서리는 것을
방지하기 위해 창을 조금 열어놓았다. 악셀레터에다 발을 올려
놓았다. 주차장에서 차를 뺄 때마다 그 놈의 사각 지대 때문에
애를 먹는다. 사각 거울이라도 장만해야지.
But, today, I was lucky. All the cars in front of my spot
were gone, so I could easily drive out. The fuel gauge on the
dashboard was on empty. I thought I'd gas up on the way. It
was only after I buckled up that I found the driver's side
mirror had been pushed back out of position. Grumbling, I got
out, set it properly, got back in the car. After adjusting
the rear view mirror and side mirrors to get a clean view, I
started the engine. I left a window open a little bit to keep
the windshield from fogging up. I put my foot on the gas
pedal. The damn blind spots make it hard for me to back out.
I'd buy a couple of extra mirrors.

1. Spot: 자신이 있던 주차 공간을 말합니다. Parking Space와
같습니다.
2. Drive out: 차를 몰고 (drive) 빠져 나온다 (out)는 말이지요.
차를 몰고 들어가는 거면 drive in이라고 했겠지요? 그래서 차를
몰고 들어가서 영화를 보는 극장을 drive-in theater라고 하지요.
3. Fuel gauge는 자동차 계기판의 연료계를 말합니다. 연료
게이지라고도 하지요. 연료계가 empty를 가리키고 있다는 말을

A: Turn the printer OFF and carefully remove any jammed paper from the printer.
프린터를 끄고 걸린 종이들을 조심스럽게 모두 빼내야 한다.
Reinstall paper into the printer by first fanning the stack of paper and
inserting it into the paper tray.
종이들을 바람이 들어가도록 휘리릭 흔들고 트레이에 다시 넣어라.
Do not force the paper into the tray, let the paper drop in and rest on the paper stop.
종이를 트레이에 무리하게 힘을 줘서 넣지 말고 종이가 살며시 들어가서
종이멈춤부분에 안착되도록 해라.
If you force the paper in too far it will come in contact with the platen roller, causing the printer to grab the entire stack when the printer is turned on.
