요즈음에는 남을 배려하는 분위기가 더욱 성숙되고 있는 듯하기는 하나 아직
도 담배연기로 남을 혹사시키는 부류의 사람들도 있는 듯 싶다. 「연기가
내 눈을 찌른다」라는 식의 「The smoke is sting my eyes」는 「연기 때문
에 눈이 따갑다」라는 의미를 가진다.
Jane:Jack, please put out your cigarette.
The smoke is stinging my eyes.
Jack:I thought that you smoke too.
Jane:Not any more.
Jack:Oh, did you quit smoking?
Jane:Yep.
Jack:When did you decide to quit smoking?
Jane:As soon as I started to go out with my date.
