Established in Dec. 1945 as a specialized agency of the United Nations,
International Monetary Fund (IMF) makes financing available to
members in balance-of-payments difficulties and provides technical
assistance to improve their economic management.
UN의 특별 기관으로서 1945년에 설립된 국제 통화 기금(IMF)는 국제수지의
어려움에 처한 회원국들에게 금융(융자)을 가능하게 해주고 그들의 경제적
운영을 향상시키기 위한 기술적 원조를 제공한다.
The nation is now losing ground on three main economic fronts _
growth, prices and the balance of payments. Consumer prices have
already climbed 4.2 percent, almost broaching the 4.5 percent ceiling
the government hoped to keep them under for the whole of the year.
The trade deficit is expected to hit an all-time high of $20 billion at the
end of the year, nearly three times the earlier-projected $7 billion.
Foreign debts are also expected to hit $100 billion by the year's end.
우리나라는 지금 3대 경제전선 - 성장, 물가, 국제수지에서 기초가 흔들이
고 있다. 소비자 물가상승은 벌써 4.2%에 육박하여 정부가 금년도 1년동안
지키기를 희망한 4.5%에 근접하고 있다. 무역수지 적자는 금년말이면 금년
초에 세웠던 70억불의 거의 3배의 금액인 사상최고의 200억불에 도달할 전
망이다. 외채는 금년말까지 1,000억불에 도달할 것으로 예상된다.

한국은행이 발표한 국제수지 잠정치 통계를 보면 올해 1월 경상수지 흑자는 10억1,000만달러로 지난해 1월보다 22억9,000만달러가 감소해 적자를 기록한 지난해 4월 이후 흑자폭이 가장 작았다.
According to the preliminary international balance of payments statistics released by the Bank of Korea, the current account surplus in January this year was $1.01 billion, down $2.29 billion from January last year, the smallest surplus since April last year.
SDR Special Drawing Rights 국제통화기금의 특별인출권
IMF 가맹국이 국제수지가 악화되었을 때 SDR을 인도함으로써 외화를 풍부하게
보유하고 있는 다른 가맹국으로부터 외화를 인출할 수 있는 특별인출권을 말한다.
