일본은 그런 강경조치로 배타적 경제수역 (EEZ) 을 철저히 보호한다는 것을 자국
어민에게 과시하려는 것 같으나 이런 고려에만 빠진다면 이는 우호적
국제관계라는 큰 틀은 보지 않는 것이다.
Japan may want to assert its determination and rights in the exclusive fishing
zone, but it is abusing international friendship and diplomacy in the process.

Hardly has any summit diplomacy been inconsequential in the
history of international relations. If the *summitry involves
the heads of great powers like the United States and China,
the impact on the subsequent development of international
affairs have *invariably been decisive and long lasting.
President Clinton's China engagement, it appears, has made a
small yet significant start which will make a definite
contribution to the closing of this bloody century marred by
chronic wars and conflict and, hopefully, to the opening of a
new millennium for peace and prosperity for us all.
정상외교가 국제관계의 역사상 중요성을 갖지 않은 적은 거의
없었다. 정상회담에 미국과 중국과 같은 초강대국들의 지도자들이
참여한 경우 그 결과로 국제관계의 발전에 미치는 영향은
변함없이 결정적이고 장기적으로 지속되어왔다. 클린턴 대통령이
중국문제에 관여하는 것은 만성적인 전쟁과 투쟁에 피로 물든 이
세기를 마감하고, 바라건대 우리 모두의 평화와 번영을 위한
새로운 일 천 년을 개막하는데 결정적인 공헌을 할 작지만 중대한
출발점이 될 것으로 보인다.
