오픈 프라이스(Open Price.판매자 가격표시제):제조업체 대신 최종판매자가
임의로 상품가격을 정하는 제도. 지금까지 제조업체에서는 권장소비자가
또는 최종가격까지 정해 왔다. 하지만 이는 과거 '물건이 없어 못 팔던'
시대의 산물이다. 오늘날처럼 치열한 가격파괴 경쟁을 벌이고 있는
상황에서는 획일적인 가격이 사실상 불가능할 뿐더러 제조업체에서
가격경쟁을 피하기 위한 수단으로 악용할 소지가 많았다. 이 제도는

◆ package, pack, parcel, packet, bundle
package는 판매를 위해 상자 따위에 포장한 것을 말합니다.

monster sale은 우리가 말하는 '대폭 할인판매' 라는 말과 같습니다.
monster는 '괴물, 기형'이라는 뜻 외에 '거대한'이라는 뜻이 있지요.
특히 '기형이라고 말할 정도로 거대한' 이라는 뉘앙스를 지니지요
그래서 monster sale 이라고 하는 것은 균형에 맞지 않을 정도로 대폭
적으로 가격을 할인한 세일이라는 말이 됩니다. 미국에는 여러 가지의
sale 이 있는데 그 중에 가장 큰 것이 크리스마스 후에 열리는 After
Christmas sale이 가장 크지요. 이 때는 대부분의 겨울용품이 50%정도
할인판매가 되지요. 참고로 할인 가격은 가격표를 보면 알 수 있는데
가격에 몇 퍼센트 off 라고 적힌 집에서 살 때에는 가격에서 몇 퍼센
트를 빼야하고 price as mark 라고 적힌 것은 가격표에 적힌 가격자체
가 할인된 가격이라는 얘기입니다.

위 본문에서는 offhand가 ‘즉석에서, 사전 준비 없이’의 뜻으로 쓰였지만 기본적으로는 ‘아무렇게나, 무심코’(careless in manner)의 뜻을 가지고 있다.
Ex. She was rather offhand with me.(그녀는 나를 너무 막 대한다.)
