Such a great writer as Shakespeare was not aware of the usage of the word "know-how". It is quite natural since it has been coined by the Americans even if the word is now in vogue all over the world. Therefore the key of making America what it is now can be found in the trend of changing "why to do" into "how to do". Napoleon was that a fool to the question "why do you wage a war?" But he was an imperishable genius able to win so many by making standardization of the grooves of the screws which had been used in jointing and disjointing the cannons.

→ 부정적인 의견을 말할 경우 I think…not…이 아니고 I don't think…

(ANS) We were only just in time for the last train.

Congratulations on~/ Let me congratulate you on ~으로 하면 된다.
→ Congratulations (for) 는 좋지 않다.

(ANS) Congratulations on coming first in the competition.

(ANS) This window won't open, See if you can get it to move.

[比較] price, charge, cost, expense
The price of meat is high now.
There is no charge for delivery./ There is a small charge for mailing package.
They found the cost of the piano made too severe drain on their resources.
The price of this article is below the cost of its manufacture.
The expense of a journey was more than the contemplated cost.
We gained the victory, but at a heavy price./ Victory will be won only at a great cost of life./ He became a brilliant scholar, but only at the expense of his health.

[比較] scatter, disperse, dissipate, dispel

scatter seeds/ Scatter ashes on the icy sidewalks.
Tear gas dispersed the mob.

The sun dissipates the mist./ He dissipated his money and his energy in useless activities.
The rising sun dispelled the darkness./ Photographs of the race dispelled all doubts as to which horse won.

[比較] sure, certain, confident, positive
I am sure(certain) that he is honest./ He is sure(certain) to lose./ I felt for time sure of his innocence; I am now certain of his guilt.
There is no certain cure for his disease.와 The soldier faced certain death. 그러나 대개 A certain person phoned.와 He had a certain charm.
He's confident he'll win./ We are confident of success./ He feels confident of passing(confident that he will pass) the examination.
Are you positive it was after midnight?/ He's too positive in his beliefs./ As I can't be certain, I won't be positive.(확실하지 않아서 단언하지 않으련다.) ~21

If you insist....
A: How about a drink before dinner?
B: Thanks but I`ll pass.
A: Why? It won`t spoil your dinner.
B: All right if you insist.
cf) This will spoil your appetite.
This will whet(pep up) your appetite.

You will pay for it!
* You won't get away with this!
'너 나중에 두고 보자'란 뜻이다. won't는 will not의 준말인데
그리고 I'll get even.
된다. get even은 '똑같이 된다.'
Let's wait and see. 또는
It remains to be seen

I won first place.
They finished first라 하면 '그들은 1등을 했다'이고
We finished last라 하면 '우리는 1등을 했다'가 된다.
주의) first place(1등)와 in the first place(애당초, 도대체)를 혼동하지 말아야 한다.
ex) A: Who was first place in the race?
B: Mac
A: What about David?
B: He finished eleventh.
A: What a shame! Why did he take part in the race in the first place?

My gut tells me that it won't work.
I have a feeling that∼ ,
I have a hunch that∼, Something tells me that∼ ,
My gut feeling is that∼ , My gut feeling is that∼ 등으로
