properly. After a certain time, he usually became very poor. Nowadays
people in England call a useless thing "a white elephant."
타이랜드 왕들은 미운 사람에게 흰 코끼리를 주었다고 한다. 흰 코끼리는 신성한
것으로 여겨졌기 때문에 일을 시킬 수가 없었다. 죽이거나 버릴 수도 없었다.
흰 코끼리를 소유한 사람은 그것을 제대로 관리하기 위해 엄청난 돈을 써야
했다. 얼마 후 그는 아주 가난해진다. 오늘날 영국 사람들은 무용지물을
"흰 코끼리"라고 한다.
